Flip Saunders is an idiot.... his top 5 players as of right now, in this order

    5. Z Bo
    4. CP3
    3. LBJ (WTF?!?!?!)
    2. Melo
    1. KD

No Kobe? No Rondo? No K Love?

Kobe? Rondo? Those really don't belong. He is right.

I don't disagree. All 5 of those guys are playing better than the guys you mention, and more importantly their teams are doing better.

"Best right now" probably just means who's playing best basketball atm? If so, it's a fair enough list. Swap LeBron and Melo probably. Swap ZBO and Duncan maybe. But either way, those should be top 6.

Love's shooting hand still seems to bother him, he hasn't looked well. Kobe looks horrific defensively. Rondo should be around there somewhere, but I wouldn't put him above those top 6. Probably top 10 though.

Melo's too high and LBJ is too low, but that's nowhere as bad as suggesting that Kobe ( no defense), Rondo, and Love ( Love isn't even an All-Star as he is right now) should be on it.

The operative word is "right now" ... this season ... Kobe, Rondo, and Love have been magnificent as usual and would certainly be in my top 3-8, BUT most of their teams are barely in the playoff picture. Boston and LA could easily miss the playoffs, this season, contrary to popular belief. Minnesota is very much a wild card.

    1. Durant (no argument there)
    2. Melo (The Knicks have been awesome, this season, don't think he's better than Lebron James, but for the MVP race, he may be ranking higher right now).
    3. LBJ ... no further statements on this one.
    4. CP3 ...ummm, best point guard in the league
    5. Zach Randolph ... healthy, playing some of the best basketball of his career, and got the Grizzlies competing for the best record in the league.

"16.7 shots to get 19 points" Love has not been magnificent. At all. That's almost Rudy Gay territory.

Actually, holy crap, Gay needs 17.0 shot to get 18.5 points. Jesus Christ, and to think that he could make the All-Star game this year.

Looks like an mvp-rating and I completely agree with it.

I agree also, though I might put LeBron ahead of Carmelo. Don't see what's idiotic about it.

early morning got me cranky. If it's an MVP voting then I can agree with it. He said top 5 players in the league, I didnt take it as MVP but more of overall skill set. Whatever though I made a bad thread.

I believe LeBron is holding back somewhat in the regular season this year. He isn't attacking the basket like he did in the playoffs last year, and all throughout his career really. His FTA per game is at 6.0, and it has never been below 8 since his rookie year. The Heat are also playing him at SF even though the team is much better when he plays PF. Its obvious that the Heat's plan is to save LeBron for the playoffs, and not let him get injured or worn down in the regular season. I believe LeBron is still better than Durant when he turns his motor up and just attacks the basket like he did in the finals last year.

    My rankings:
    1. LeBron
    2. Durant
    3. Melo
    4. CP3
    5. Howard (his team is struggling but I attribute those struggles to other factors. He's still the best C in the league IMO; he's transformative defensively and unstoppable offensively when close to the basket. FT's remain his achilles heal.)
