I am just curious b/c I honestly don't know how.
Do you load the gun every night before sleep, keep it under your pillow, or somewhere near your bed? Do you sleep in a self-awake mode? If the gun is loaded, is there is chance it misfires say by a cat, dog, or worse your kid?

    Insights?

    Are these serious questions?

Go take some classes and become educated.

Every night I lock my bedroom door, place the magazine next to my 9mm on my bed stand. No big deal. The Pit Bull sleeps on the floor.

You should take some time and go shooting. Fire off a few rounds with an assault rifle to get the feel. Take some time on shotguns. Shoot at things like sheetrock, plywood, ect... to get a full scope of what kind of collateral damage you can do if you miss. Then move on to pistols.

If you feel comfortable that you can take down a legit threat w/out harming anyone else, including yourself, in the dark, scared out of your mind, then you can consider which weapon to keep nearby and how to store/access it.

Keeping a loaded weapon within arms reach while sleeping is not the brightest idea.

I keep a loaded magazine on top of the dresser 9tucked away out of sight), and the unloaded pistol on the top shelf of my closet. I can get up, get the gun, load it, and be ready in less than 10 seconds, yet its out of reach of my kids (and even if they got the pistol, it would be unloaded).

I understand that bullets will pass through close targets and through sheetrock walls. I know where my kids sleep on the other sides of which walls, and know how important it is to avoid shooting through my targets and harming others. Hollow point bullets will have less of a tendency of shooting through targets, but I don't want to depend on them stopping in my target.

Thank you. Sig Sauer 9 mm.

I was at home when my back door was kicked in 6 months ago. I scared away the burglars. I'm very thankful that I had my pistol. And I'm very thankful that I didn't have to use it.

Tie a string across the doorstep that leads up to the top of the door and tie the end or it to the gun. When they try to break in, it'll fall on their heads. Make sure it's a big gun though, so you'll get a 2 for 1.

Have you tried to stop some one from hurting your in house. I have seen p*****s pointing their pistols like they have real powers to threaten innocent bypasser in their farm lands. I am questioning the effectiveness having a gun at home supposedly to protect your home. Like someone said, a watch dog does a better job.

I dont have kids, so I keep my SD40ve within reach on my bedside table, clip loaded with hollows under my pillow.

I also have a Mossberg 500 stashed in my living room

& My roommate has a Walther PPK under his pillow/or bedside table as well.

This. Let those who know how to handle guns, handle guns. I've usually had a dog that's 45-50 pounds. Big enough to scare away the bad guys, but not so big that I can't pick him up if I have to. Of course, if that isn't enough, I can manage to protect the abode by other means. Just my appearance freaks people out.
