He has no chance, of course - but it'll be interesting to see if he garners any votes (beyond Pancakes). Unfortunately, there is no way the Peter Kings of the world are going to pass on the opportunity to once again write PeePee Manning's name down on an NFL ballot. They're going to be giddy. The top 5 players in football this year, I think rather easily are (in no order): Watt, Manning, Brady, Peterson and Megatron. Miller is a distant sixth.
This isn't a fair match up. Watt is way better. How about JJ Watt Vs. a tornado? Who would win? or JJ Watt Vs. Godzilla?
Please refer to my NUTS. Read this entire thread to answer your questions as to why Aldon Smith is not even in the DPOY discussion. What chapter are we on? Now, in the word's of Vince Neil.... "Girl, don't go away mad......Girl, just go away!"
Watt hands down for DPOY...with zero chance of MVP. Might get a couple votes from voters that are trying to be fancy. Although, before this week, Jim Trotter from SI had Smith as the DPOY followed with Miller.
Right, because prepubescent kids reqularly quote the gospel that is Vince Neil. It is amusing that you find my vitriol towards you to be threatening, though. Now, I AM entertained.
I would say one of the differences is that Watt is having an all time great season as a deffender. Where as Manti had a really good season on an undefeated team, just don't think it stands up to some of the all time great seasons.
Let's see. One of these guys has completely redefined his position and challenged our perceptions about what is possible at that position. The other has a bunch of sacks.
Watt had 6 freaking tackles for a loss on top of 3 sacks yesterday. He has 33 TFLs on the season to Smith's 17. It's not even close.
Rep to anyone who can find a defensive season comparable to what JJ has done this year. Reggie White, maybe? Sacks- #1 TFLs- #1 PDs- #7, the only non-DB in the top 45 http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/player-stat/defense-pass-defenses Imagine if a DB was top 10 in sacks and TFLs.
Watt is going to be the runaway DPOY vote winner regardless of who wins the sack crown - it's not even close, and it's not as if he's lacking for national media recognition.
Reggie White 1987 12 Games 21 Sacks 4 FF 1 FR I'm not sure if they kept TFL and PD's back then. Also Reggie White's 1988 season was sick as well. 16 games 18 sacks 133 Tackles How in the world do you get 133 tackles as a DL?
Since the casualty to Cushing, Watt has taken it upon himself. He is the front seven. As for Aldon, well you saw in last night's game how his pressure was neutralized when Justin Smith had to go out of the game. Point being, Watt's game has had more impact. Besides, any time you hear of a batted down pass, no matter what team is playing, you always hear Watt, like watt invented the art. That kind of notoriety goes a long way with voters.
Good stuff! It's pretty amazing when we have to look at Reggie White's greatest seasons to draw comparison.
