I don't believe that is what he meant. You might be taking the comments to the extreme.

Nobody is saying that the Lakers should have won all the games. Looking at their roster on paper, on paper, they are poised to make a championship run and their current record of 11-14 is not even close to being satisfactory.

Golden State on the other hand is NOT the norm. A person would have been laughed at if he/she predicted that they would be 16-8 at this point of the season. Roster does make a difference because even thought they had the same coach, they were 23-43 last year.

Folks here are not making excuses. They just want to put things in relative perspective.

What are you talking about? This team is definitely overachieving.

Then this is the dreaded question that every Rocket fan is afraid to ask.

Why would Morey consider firing McHale if the Rockets are where we thought they were or overachieving?

Hilarious how D'antoni's name keeps getting tossed around as a replacement ****NEWS FLASH****** That dude has a job !!

I don't always agree with Mchale but c'mon,he hasn't even had a full year yet.Think about it ... no camp last year and a strike shortened season, had the tragic loss that kept him out half of this years games.Complete roster turnover .. I really can't imagine any coach on earth that would have made much of a difference .

No, he was saying our not very satisfying performance has a lot to do with our roster lacks 'star' power and I was merely arguing it's not that stars will automatically mean more wins and I was giving records of Lakers and GS as two opposite examples. You are actually supporting my argument by saying that even though Lakers have all the stars, they are not even close to have satisfactory performance. My points from the start is: although on paper we only have Harden, the sole star, but Asik and Parsons are playing well like stars and we are not that bad when it comes to the roster.

Yeah, exactly, why is GS playing so well when they don't seem to have that many 'star' power on their roster?

    so true.

McHale is on a 4-yr deal. Given all that's happened, his job is safe. He'll certainly be our head coach next year. After next year, he'll be on the last year of his deal. If he does a terrible job, i suppose the rockets could fire him a year before his contract is over, but i doubt that happens. As stated by another poster, the Rockets tend to let coaches finish out their contracts; i don't see how this will be different.

Just sit back and enjoy the ride with McHale because he ain't going anywhere. $20 in the tip jar says McHale will finish out his contract with the Rockets.

McHale is also not the same type of coach that Adelman or Popvich is. He is more like Phil Jackson in that his job is not to draw up plays or set defensive assignments. His job is to be a leader and over see his assistant coaches, most notably Sampson and Finch.

McHale is supposed to set the tone and pull the team together, which he has done well.

Concerning the defensive and offensive short comings, consider that it is very hard to reign in the youngest team in the NBA and a team where 75% of the players were not here a year ago. The pick and roll, screens, cuts, etc all take practice, patience and everyone executing on the same page.

Seems to me ,staff not doing what Alderman wouldn't do.No 1,let young players play so they could be fully evaluated. If we are going to lose games and blame it on youth, lets lose with Dmo and T Jones so we know what we have.

Hmm...this thread is a bit of an overreaction. The biggest question is Lin and Harden meshing, why don't we give it a season? Young team with a lot of weapons, at least two playmakers with handle and smarts, I like our chances going forward, and I'm willing to be patient for the remainder of the season.

the reason they hired Mchale is so they could be pulling all the strings. Can't blame a puppet for his master's shortcomings.

I like how you grouped these 2 groups together, as if LOF's were unbiased.

umm they are 1 game under .500 after completely changing their roster (ask the lakers how that goes) I do not know of too many teams with the rockets record and roster thinking about firing their coach less than half way through the year. This is the same team that a lot of people picked to finish near the end before the harden trade, so no I do not think many people who know about sports are thinking about firing mchale

McHale wouldn't have been fired even if his family matter hadn't happened. I'm surprised he hasn't taken the rest of the season off. I would.
