We know Alex Smith is out. What about chuck pagano? I am sure bruce arians will get a head coaching offer somewhere. What will the colts do? If they fire someone for getting cancer well irsay is going to get a lot of flack and it is just a terrible thing to do. If they lose arians and they suck next year, which is very likely since they are winning with smoke and mirrors and super easy schedule, they will get flack. Good teams don't win close games because you are depending on luck to not have a bad bounce, and the colts still have a -49 run differential despite being 9-5.
I think Arian's, out of respect for Pagano, will not leave his staff if Pagano returns. They've been very clear from the start of the season that they were keeping his seat warm for him. Using this situation as a career launching point would be in poor taste, IMO, unless Pagano gives it his blessing. Injury is one thing, but this is different, this is a life threatening illness. In addition, Arian's was hired by Pagano and subservient to him, not like a backup quarterback who takes over for a starter injured in the action of playing. Joe Vitt/Sean Payton, on the otherhand, I could see them cutting each other's throats any day now.
Alex smith lost the job because the Kaper is a better option now and moving forward. Also, don't discount the salary cap implications. The injury simply put the inevitable on the fast track...Smith was never the guy.
A Sports Illustrated article that I read mentioned how Pagano constantly watched game film and recorded practice sessions from his hospital bed. He's still coaching from the bedside, telling players how to run routes or react in defensive schemes, even to new Colts players that he has never met in person. Pagano is still the brains in Indianapolis and Arians is the physical presence. He's only limited in that he can't be physically at the game playcalling in real time. I don't think he's going to lose his head coaching position.
too bad colts cannot keep both coaches on the team, it is a shame. I bet Arians gets a head coaching position after this season and Pagano would tell him to go for it.
It's funny Alex Smith never lost his job when he wasn't playing good. Now that he plays good he ends up losing his job due to injury.
Incorrect. He lost his job plenty of times in the past. Problem is they never found another player good enough to retain the job either. They started Troy Smith (OSU), Shan Hill and countless other QBs during Smith's time in SF.
Man i forgot about Dorsey....He was bad. 9er fans had to endure a horrible stretch of football in 00's...but it looks like this team is built to be a contender for the next decade...O-line is stout and young...Defense has no weakness and is relatively young other than Justin Smith. You got two young future HOF ILBs. Aldon Smith is a machine rushing the passer and the Kaper has soooo much room to grow. Secondary is solid at every position. Sucks that Gore has too much tread on his tires from the bad times...He's got another 2 (maybe 3 tops) good seasons in him.

I guess we can expect the Chargers to continue sucking then. Arians is not the answer to any team's coaching problems, let alone a team led by Philip Rivers. Just ask Steelers fans.
agree. Arians has been fortunate to "coach" some of the best QBs in the game. These QBs have continued to succeed well after he's leaves.
