Lin getting benched is ridiculous. He kept constant pressure on rondo and kept setting up his teammates for good shots. Assists are awesome, coaching staff.

When Lin is out, you'd think they'd go to Harden handling the ball. It's their wet dream to run their one play, iso but Nooooo t-dougie is handling the rock? I'm just puzzled like our coaching staff is.

"with a player like harden why would you want to play democratic basketball." -Sampson-.
That was a scary quote when he first said it and it still is.

These mofos need to find a way for both harden and lin to coexist, but I think the task is too big for them.

This coaching staff rides the hot hand, and plays who they think will play the best defense at the end of games. Kevin Martin, even when healthy, was benched in favor of Courtney Lee at the end of games a ton last year.

Guys calm down... Would I have liked to see Lin in there? You bet. Am I doubting McHale? Yeah, a little bit. But we are still very early in the season. The team was completely revamped this off season - the centerpiece got added right before the season with basically no practice in between. And our coach was not with the team for an extended period of time.

McHale needs to learn how to use Lin to the best oh his abilities and how he can help the team most. Lin needs to learn how to play next to Harden. Harden needs to learn how to play next to Lin. Are they working on that? There is not a doubt in my head. Does McHale want Lin to succeed? O course he does - Les and Morey invested a lot of money in this guy, the Rockets want him to be a centerpiece of the team. And Lin is capable of that.

So why didn't he play at the end? Because McHale thought playing Douglas got him the best chance to win a nationally televised game. Because Lin/Harden/McHale haven't figured it out yet how to best work together.

Lin will start the next games - probably till the end f the season. And he will average more than 30 minutes. And they will learn how to work together. And Lin will become one of our closers. So just relax and quit overreacting every time McHale benches Lin...

That is the life of millions of Asian Americans in a nut shell. They give you the hardest tasks with the least resouces. They praise you when no one is around. But the moment of glory and true rewards always go to someone else.

McHale praised Lin publicly tonight. Lin has also gotten plenty of rewards and glory, particularly for someone at his experience level-- $25 M contract, endorsement deals from Volvo, Nike, etc.

Parsons has a better claim for toiling in obscurity for little pay than Lin does.

Yeah, empty praises as consolidation award because he knew he had absolutely no reason to humiliate Lin in front of millions watching on ESPN last night.

Lin has proven, if only for one game this season (actually more than one but who's counting?), that given the chance, he can put up big stats just like James Harden. Houston Rockets just do not want to put Lin in the position to succeed.

Hey Carl interesting post. I have a few thoughts.

It isn't just his fame from last season. It is that we invested 8 million dollars of cap space into him for this season & he is getting benched for Tony Douglas a player who isn't a part of the Rockets long term plans.

Also McHale has a past history where PG's have complained about his system.

Also some fans would prefer that we look towards the future & develop players that need developing. Yes Lin is playing minutes so it isn't like he is getting DNP-CD but at the same time he isn't playing meaningful 4th quarter minutes & he has yet to be put in a position to be successful. Only time that happened was because Harden was hurt.

Also many fans were never a 100% committed to McHale as a effective head coach prior to Lin being on the roster anyway.

Also Lin has shown that he can be successful when featured properly & Harden has shown that he can be successful when featured properly but unfortunately it seems like the coach doesn't understand how to make both of them successful when featured together.

Also McHale has said that he wants to rely on Harden less & he wants the ball to be in Lin's hands when Harden is on the floor but it doesn't appear like he has actually acted out on his promises. For example, a very simple first step would be to situate Lin on the left wing driving right & situate Harden on the right wing driving left & run some both sided stuff. McHale said he would do this like several days ago but I don't think he has yet.

What is interesting is that Tony has had more success playing next to Harden than Lin has. That isn't a coincidence. From the outside looking in, it appears that McHales system wants Harden to be the PG & the other backcourt player to be a SG but Lin isn't a SG. Seems like McHale doesn't know how to make the two of them work (thus far) as seen by his comfort with playing TD in the 4th next to Harden repeatedly over Lin. Is it a combination of McHale not having the x's & o's knowledge, the team still in the process of implementing new sets, McHale being stubbornly committed to his system, McHale not having enough trust in Lin who knows.

But the writing is definitely on the wall & I think it is clear to everybody that Lin is not to pleased as he should be. He's a competitor & clearly wants to play & likely wants more responsibility offensively as well. I would be annoyed if Lin was perfectly ok with everything as it is, lord knows I like players with some fire in them.

I think for the most part patience is key but like I said the writing is kind of on the wall right now. Just a few thoughts.

Yeah, that surprised me too! I guess they signed up to read the forums when guests get locked out during heavy usage.

So the fact they are posting just goes to show how glaring this issue is.

Lin played 27 minutes tonight. That's not bad for his first full season. People acting like he's not getting enough PT - he is.

But he's being way too timid out there. He definitely needs to be more aggressive.

You keep saying this. But the big picture here is that he isn't being put in a position to be successful. A player is only as good as the coaches help them to be. I can go down the list. Tony Douglas is starting to look semi productive. He was terrible under Dantoni. Douglas himself said how essential it is to have a coach that has confidence in you.

OJ Mayo playing well under Carlisle. Felton playing his best under Dantoni. JR Smith being successful under Woodson, Carmelo Anthony also. Deron Williams played his best in Utah. A coach is equally as important to a players success as the player himself.

Even former players have said this before. There are a lot of players out there in the NBA who never get there chance because the coach doesn't believe in them, fans would be surprised how many guys there are like that just riding the bench rotting away. Lin may be playing timid but the coaches definitely are not helping.

    Just a few thoughts.

And yet, that is exactly what Rockets are doing to Lin.

Remember when they first signed Lin, Morey was asked by the media if he expected Linsanity. He answered that Rockets didn't need/want Lin to be the offense because they already had plenty of fire power; they just needed him to be a good distributor and play defense. Guess Lin is being a good and obedient Asian following orders and letting his own stats go to wreck.

I'm really sick to death of this 'too timid' myth. He had 7 assists in the first half. Most of them were passes to Asik and Smith to get them easy dunks and layups. He was attacking aggressively and finding the open man for easy looks.

He was making life very uncomfortable for Rondo and playing stellar defense.

But you would rather he plays like Toney Douglas, who chucked bad shot after bad shot, created ZERO assists and did WHAT on defense? Oh yeah, helped Rondo get going after Lin was benched. I guess the coaches feel that way too.

Lin is clearly the better defender, the better passer and the better PG. He also has a higher FG% than TD THIS season and he was playing well. There is no logical justification for his benching other than hate/stupidity. Take your pick.

Honestly... I would like it if the coaches simply benched Lin for a couple of games and let TD play as the main starter. Then you guys will realise the value of a proper point guard who can actually PASS the ball at an elite level.

There was a reason Lin got to play in NY. That reason was Toney Douglas.

All I can say is. Trade the poor guy to a team where the coaching staff actually WANT him. #freelin

Only those that still want their precious Lowry and Gogi back. I like them too but I like watching JLin and Harden more.

What's sad is Harden and Lin can play well together as evidenced by the Hawk game. All the coaching that follows is what has screwed them up.
