The Lakers need an identity they have none. The Lakers need someone that can run Mike Dantonis offense first & foremost. Mike Dantoni isn't running his offense right now. He is running post ups for DH & Kobe & wing iso's for Kobe also. Steve Nash is the best at running the high PNR that is the bread & butter of MDA's offense & Lin isn't to shabby at running that offense also. If Lin were to go to LA he wouldn't be starting at all. Also Sessions was under Mike Brown who frankly isn't as good of a coach as Mike Dantoni. But once again this is all hypothetical. Lin isn't going anywhere & neither is McHale. Someone is going to have to adjust & it will likely be Lin. it will just take time & people just have to get used to the situation as it is. It will likely be like this for the rest of the season.
I agree in "theory" yeah Lin would seem to make sense on the surface. Reuniting Lin & Pringles. Run & Gun with the P&R with Howard as the default Tyson Chandler big man. However, there is no theory that can solve every problem going on in LA. And if its possessions and additional plays run for Lin that the LOF'ers want, LA isn't the place for Lin even if the system seems like a better fit based on Pringles past systems. I think the logical basketball junkies(Id like to think that is us) know its never just that simple when it comes to the Laker circus. There is still this guy there named Kobe Bryant whose going to get his touches hell or high water, and this other guy named Pau Gasol whose a square peg trying to fit in a round hole. Those guys just aren't going to assume the roles of Steve Novak and Landry Fields from the Linsanity era. Id like to think that Lin is a really good guy, and I really dont want to see him personally have to deal with the nonsense he would have to deal with in LA as the new Go-To Goat if he was traded there. Teebow deserved NY, but Lin deserves a more simple team to grow with. However, the LOF'ers..... they deserve the Lakerfans and vice versa. That would be entertaining to see how that shakes out. Im with you though.... Lin isn't getting traded so its sort of irrelevant. They are going to work it out, and if they move Lin to the bench eventually I personally dont think that's the worst thing in the world for the offense. Harden played starters minutes in OKC, Terry played a big role in Dallas for almost a decade, McHale in Boston, etc. etc. The 6th man role isn't what fans on here think it is. The coaches, and the front office will put Lin in a position to be successful eventually. Its just gonna take some time to figure that out.
It's easier to work it out when one person is not sitting on the bench for 2 quarters per game.
I am not one of the people who wants Lin to recreate Linsanity. That is in the past. People also need to remember Lin would be a 6th man in LA. He wouldn't be starting. Everyone is talking like Lin would be the starting PG there. That isn't happening with Nash. Would Lin likely have a lot more success in LA though being mentored by Nash coming off the bench but still playing meaningful minutes. Yes he would. The only reason I say that though is because Lin & Harden are extremely redundant players. Lin need to facilitate the offense but McHale is more comfortable with Harden doing it. Otherwise Lin is useless. In LA he would have a lot more opportunity to do that than he would in Houston unless McHale alters his system which I don't think he will. Fun fact, remember that the issue with Pau Kobe Howard is the exact same as Amare Melo Tyson. And i agree I doubt Lin wants to deal with the LA media circus, he didn't like the NY one after all. In regards to Lin coming of the bench in Houston I don't think it is wise. It would make Harden/Lin a lot easier to lock down as the sole distributors out there with each unit. The purpose of having them both out there at the same time was that you have to guys who can make plays making it harder for the defense to just lock one guy down. But if the coaches think it is best then so be it. Just some thoughts.
And I showed you stats he's got a bad FG% outside of lay-ups and if you actually watch the games, the reason for that is he shoots very sparingly. He penetrates then dishes it back outside while running out the clock. You're not responding to me.
You showed me stats that have nothing to do with the PNR which was the initial critiscm you gave in your original post. I gave you stats that showed that were solely based on his ability to score or shoot off the PNR. I did respond to you're initial argument. You just changed you're argument after I gave you the data that proved you were incorrect.
OK. I may have misread it. Give me a link to your stats. But I still stand with him passing it back out which is why he has a good percentage.
Lin has 1 steps close to be an all-stars. He is not going to be elected by the coaches. The Rockets should make more plays for him to prove himself, not to screw him up.
I am a new Rockets fan. Before I did not understand it, but now I understand why Lowry wanted to get away from McHale and why Dragic would rather be in Phoenix.
Yes you did misread it. The stats I used were PPP stats as the PNR ball handler. Synergy doesn't track pass out situations. Your stance is factually incorrect. His good FG% is based exclusively on his ability score it doesn't have anything to do with him passing back out. This is the link to synergy. Just type in Jeremy Lin's name & check under offense tabs & you will see the numbers I gave for his PPP as the PNR ball handler. The numbers are there I am not making them up. http://mysynergysports.com/
No but I consider any PnR attempt not resulting into a basket or better position for a teammate a waste of shot clock. That's something he does.
As far as I am concerned we are discussing something totally different now. You said he can't finish or shoot off the PNR I gave you stats that he can in fact do that. You agreed & said I misread. If you have facts to back up your opinion please share. Because right now you aren't providing any data, you are relying on your eye test & we all know that isn't reliable.
All I can say is that if McFail does this crap in MSG, there's gonna be a s h i t storm coming from fans every where.
I am not aware if there is a stat for kicking the ball back out. But, for Lin's case, I would say the number of instances are gross enough that I can quantifiably say with confidence he kicks it back out on a good chunk of attempts. I think most people would say so too. Take it from me, I've seen people say it on this board. I said "can't finish" including the times he kicks it back out. You took it in a %-wise sense. We had different connotations but I would say that "can't finish the PnR" can include kicking the ball out, in the way I said it.
I see. Like I said I do not have the data for pass outs off the PNR. That data isn't available to the public, only to major media outlets. But yes Lin does like to get into the teeth of the defense & kick the ball out to the wings for a 3 point attempt. How often he does it I don't have numbers on that. I also do not have numbers on whether the times he kicks the ball out to the wings to say Parsons or Delfino results in a successful 3 point attempt either.
