he also shut rondo nearly down, he played great d Lin needs to score, I get that and until he does this is going to happen...
I credit that he's a good one-on-one defender. But, for guards, defense is just a miserable consolation prize. The defense rotates so much. You can't really credit it to one guy. Case in point, Tony Parker blew up the other night.
That's exactly what I have been thinking. Staggering sounds a great idea but solves nothing Unless Lin only plays 10 minks. They will have to sacrifice each other's game to co-exist (I don't think coaching stuff will want to sacrifice Harden's game even if Harden has no problem with that) or Lin will have to be traded. My hunch is eventually Lin will be traded.
Staggering/bench idea will address the issue if the goal is to drive up Lin's trade value and then flip him for a PF or a spot-up SG to play next to Harden (who becomes the PG).
I too heard the national NBA TV crews breaking down lin's role on the rockets. Interesting to see such in-depth commentary. One guy felt that lin would be traded under two years as the issue was both lin and harden need the ball, and there is only one ball. Granted, this has been already mentioned quite a bit on these forums. Even the game commentators noticed lin was on the bench as the fourth Quarter wound down. Somehow, i do get the growing suspicion that the coaching staff dont think very highly of Lin's skills thus far. Almost like the 38pt breakout never even happened. Something just seems kinda off on that coaching staff. seems rather odd, no? Also, especially tonite, the rockets points were almost too easy when lin was dishing out all those assists. Oh heck, Rockets won against a good celtics team tonite. REJOICE!
i think it's silly that our coaches frown upon a point guard getting assists, especially when he was going all out on the defensive end. I really despised lin during the whole linsanity thing because I loved ham and gogi and hated how they generated no attention. But now that Lin is a rocket, I've learned to like him. He could really be a great point guard (if it were the late 90s and early 2000s.) Like Jon Barry said during the broadcast, it's a new position, the pg position..it's become a scoring position. From the postgame show, Mchale said he was going to bring lin back in with 7 minutes to go, but douglas did some really good things and decided to milk what douglas was doing. Which in retrospect was a good decision since we won. but seriously coaches, 12 pts/10assists/5rebounds is a pretty awesome stat line, which is what I think lin is capable of. Nothing wrong with democratic ball, SAMPSON!
The coaches seem to value defense greatly - remember the Portland game where Douglas played in OT for "better defensive match-up"?
Coaching staff will never let Lin free. As long as the rockets are winning people should be fine by that. The coaching staff is aware of what Lin is capable of, they see it day in and day out. It's difficult meshing two guards who need the ball all the time. I dont blame the coaches for doing what they do. Harden is an unselfish player as well, im sure if coaching staff asked him to defer a little bit he would, but honestly with Lin shooting the way he does why would you? Lin playing as a 6th man could work but that might just kill his confidence. TD is better with Harden on the floor, there really is no doubt about that. Tough situation for coaches. When woodson had lin play with melo after the linsanity stretch lin still played pretty good. They could balance the PnR with isos for harden. Its even better cuz Harden isn't as selfish as melo. It's still hard to do either way, and lin shooting the way he has been doesnt help. Like everyone on this board says, he has to make his shots.
Dunno. Never caught that. But, what? Douglas is actually better than Lin in this respect? Douglas isn't even that good a defender. What does that make Lin?
Well... that just might be because Harden plays 40 minutes a game. Im not sure I agree though. Im sure McHale trusts Lin just fine to run their offensive sets. It just seems like when the offense isn't fluid and the ball isn't moving, they end up giving the ball up to Harden with 8 seconds left on the shot clock to create something out of nothing. Short answer is to get better ball movement and that should help get more looks for Lin/Patterson/Parsons within the offense. Im not saying Lin should get put in a 6th man role at all. Just merely commenting on the national analysts take on what they think, and communicating that objectively to the board for discussion. I personally think its too soon to make a move that drastic, but its something to think about objectively if it helps balance the offensive attack. I mean, how many players do the Rockets have coming off the bench that have that kind of instant scoring ability???... None really. Just something to think about later on.
The Rockets coaching staff is blackballing Lin out of the league. They don't want Lin to be in the league anymore so they are trying to diminish his value as much as possible so that when he leaves he'll have to start back from the bottom and hope he'll lose out. It's pathetic how hateful these coaches are of Lin. This is why Kyle Lowry left this franchise.
Might be the dumbest post Ive read here in awhile. Yes, the franchise decided to invest 25 million dollars on a player only so they could blacklist him out of the NBA. Seems to make perfect sense.
I never said anything about the organization in the front-office such as Daryl Morey, etc. I am just talking the coaching staff like Kevin Mchale and Kelvin Sampson, those assholes want him gone, not Morey.
Well my point was that when Harden goes out they always take Lin out too? I would have loved to see Lin run with the second unit but they never took Douglas out to let us see that look. It just makes sense to have either Harden or Lin on the floor at all times.
The coaches work for the front office, owner, gm, etc. They would not have pursued any player that they thought their coaching staff would be "hateful" towards. Its just time to put away the laptop before you hurt yourself.
The coaches clearly do not care about the money then, what is it to them if the Rockets lose money? Are they going to lose their salary? No, they're still going to get paid more than they should. Nobody in the Rockets coaching staff should even have a job.
It's apparent that coaching staff has no idea what to do with Lin/Harden duo. McHale and Sampson both are as impatient with them as people here. If they are clueless, why not let Lin and Harden figure out themselves?? Lin and Harden are selfless, egoless, and intelligent players. In time, they will solve their current dilama FASTER than our coaches and fans. LEAVE THEM PLAY, McHale! If there is one objection needs to be accomplished this season, it is to develop chemistry between Harden and Lin! Nothing else is more important going forward! Despite our win, it's really a waste of golden opportunity to gel them. If McHale can't develop team chemistry, will the same problem exist if Morey signs another star player who can score?
