It has it's flaws, but what film doesn't? I was smiling throughout the film and the ending just caps it off. Some of the reviews are saying it's "overlong" and "tedious" I didn't feel that way at all. It was an enjoyable 'adventure' and a nice way to kick things off with the prequels. On the tech side, I saw it in IMAX(Digimax) 3D HFR and it's truly a gamechanger. Right off the bat when the New Line Cinema logo pops up, it moves at a turbo pace and the whole theater was like, "whoa, holy ****." 10 minutes in and you're adjusted. The image is CRYSTAL CLEAR and when the scenes of the NZ landscapes(a bunch) and the terrific action sequences pop up. Everything is so smooth, 48fps HFR is showcasing the future. I hear Cameron's gonna shoot Avatar sequels in 48fps-60fps, I can see why.

Wait, so there ARE IMAX 3d in HFR? I was told the Imax 3d at edwards with star trek prologue is non hfr and the hfr is a different showing

If it's IMAX AND it's 3D then it's HFR. Yeah, I got the Star Trek 2 before the Hobbit as well. It was cool

Ok good. You're positive? B/c on the showtimes, it doesn't say HFR. It just says IMAX 3d and then separate showings for 3d and 2d and then other showings for HFR 3D at Ewards marqe

Hmm, then it's probably not HFR if it's not listed. It should say HFR on it

I'm nearly positive if it's IMAX and 3D, it's HFR. I think the only reason it says HFR is to differentiate HFR for 3D and non HFR 3D on regular movie screens.

I'm pretty biased as a fan, but just saw it in 3d and really enjoyed it (Couldn't make a time to see the 48 fps so guess I'm going back soon). There was some differentiation from the book here and there, but nothing that detracted from the story, and quite a bit of additional content tying things together. Very well done overall. Did not seem as long as it was.

I thought the camera work for the part of the movie (maybe 10 min) was too over the top. Alot of rapid movements, jerking, spinning, ect... Gave me a headache.

Over all it was pretty good.

I went in with lowered expectations because of a review or two I read. I completely disagree with almost all the negative reviews (except the one nitpick about the opening 25 minutes or so in the Shire dragging a bit, probably could have made some cuts there).

The Hobbit was a joy. My wife and I both really enjoyed it and she is certainly not a big Tolkien fan. I cant wait for the next one.

48 frames per second. Movies traditionally have been shot at 24 fps. TV is usually 30 fps (technically 29.97). The higher frame rate makes action shots smoother. I'm curious to see how it looks. I hope it doesn't look all soap opera like.

I have a feeling people are going to have a much more head ache with nauseous with the 48fps. Sure it's going to make the 3D much clearer but I think seeing too much 3D going on clearly and if you brain can't adjust to it quickly you're going to be sick after the movie. Hopefully there is a 48fps near my area because I really want to see what it will be like. Life of Pi 3D was decent at the beginning but the 3D was slowly disappearing or registering from my vision/brain half way through. Wonder if the 3D will hope up in 48fps.

Saw it. Enjoyed it immensely. Isn't Bilbo played by the British Jim from the Office?

I saw The Hobbit this afternoon in 3D and 48fps, and it looked simply wonderful. I frequently come out of a 3D flick with eye strain and perhaps a headache, and instead of feeling that way after watching this wonderful film, I felt terrific. No eye strain, no headache, and certainly no upset stomach. It was my best experience to date walking out of a 3D film, and that includes Avatar. I don't know where this idea of the negative impact came from, except from one quote from an Aussie guy that flew to New Zealand to see it that I read somewhere, but in my opinion, all films should be shot at 48fps and in 3D, if they look like this. Simply mavelous, and so was The Hobbit!
