I am not blaming them at all. I agree they would've not prevented this.

Just curious, would you consider a brainwashed person, mentally ill?

Well he'd know, if his mom worked there...seems almost pointless to me to have that gap. Anyone with internet or phone could find out that information...should be locked the moments kids arrive.

Actually even with many of these killers there were many signs that they were mentally ill. Choi the V-Tech shooter was known to be mentally ill, so was Jared Loughner the shooter of Gabby Giffords and also James Holmes the Aurora, Co shooter. These weren't just out of the blue acts of evil for the sake of evil but mentally sick individuals. In all of these cases it is very possible that better mental health care and screening could've prevented those shootings.

And yes mental illness can be cured or at least treated there are plenty of people who have suffered from mental illness that drives them to violence that have been treated.

During this nativity season, according to millions of Christians, we remember that Christ was born from the Virgin Mary. Christ represents love.

Now imagine that from a mother, pure evil is born. To take the life of children is more than sad, its evil.

This is the message of Christ. Love. Regardless of your religion, creed, or faith, everyone should tell your parents, children, family, that love is real. Hug them tighter, kiss them and share this true message to everyone so things like this don't happen. Love your neighbor. Love those around you. Love those that may hurt you and learn to forgive. May God grant rest to the souls of those departed. May God grant rest to those that mourn.

    I am really sad.

It's in suburban New York City. Hardly in the middle of nowhere. The town was a well-to-do area...many commuters to NYC.

Strange thing is that murder rates are some of the lowest in years, but we have an increase in these senseless mass killings.

I think you are probably right but I am hesitant to jump to a conclusion about the cause when so much is unknown. After the Gabby Giffords shooting and the attack on the Benghazi consulate I think we need to be careful jumping to any conclusion regarding a tragedy like this.

The likelihood does seem like this is the act of a mentally unstable person but there is a possibility that it isn't and if it is something else that could be very important.

This...CT is a extremely wealthy state...and people often do commute from the city to and fro...In fact last year i was in a Town just a few miles north of Newtown(Waterbury)...The small towns are really close nit...but who cares if they are well to do...so many lost so much...

Agreed, you were and are completely in the right in that regard. I stand by what I said about the importance of mental health care, but in relation to this particular case the best thing to do is to wait for more information, just as you have suggested.

    Thanks.

As others have said, I don't think there is any known mental state anyone considers "healthy" where you start shooting defenseless little kids. But maybe that's just me.

Not trying to make this a debate thread... So apologies if it comes across that way.... Just very angry and sad in general. My whole career is working with young adults, and I feel like over 15 years I've seen a whopping increase in serious mental health issues with young men (and women, actually) in their early 20's. Serious, scary, dissonant mental states, and what the heck can anyone do about it? And where does it come from?

I know I'm not a model citizen of this thread, but there's a D&D thread that's more appropriate for that gun violence poster.

I had read up to page 9 and figured I should just post it in response to some comments that were made up that point. But, you are correct, the D&D is more appropriate.

Why? God forbid that real life impinge on our ability to discuss the best asses and latest video games. This is something that we all have an emotional response to and is deserving of conversation here as well as D&D.

But the forum police might not like it. I never go to D&D anyways, so my preference would be to discuss here.
