Yates is still very much a project. He is already a serviceable back-up. Only time will tell if he will be better than Schaub. And two seasons is definitely not enough time. Not even close.
lol schaub is GOAT tom brady 2 super bowl losses manning 1 super bowl loss schaub ZERO super bowl losses.. GOAT.....
i agree, if you were to take both guys at the same stage in their career, based on the eye test you could come to the conclusion that yates has the better tools to qb in this league. athletically, there is nothing that schaub can do that yates cant, right now schaub has experience and that damn dennys menu playbook down packed.. as for yates, give him time, the remainder of schaubs contract to learn every nuance of the playbook. kubiak is grooming this kid for the starting job..
Every QB needs a defense that can shut down the opposing QB. You cant win a Superbowl by giving up 30 ppg. Or, at least, you'd be making it extremely difficult. The Texans will need a very, very good defense to win it all...doesnt matter if it is Schaub at the QB spot or if its Rodgers. Having said that, I do expect more from Matt in the big games. He isnt his normal self, so that issue needs to be taken care of. In no way would I replace Schaub though, since we have zero options at our disposal that are better. And Yates is no where near where Schaub currently is.
your playbook is limited from the jump with schaub. this is the pros, i know joe montana didn't have the strongest arm or drew brees, but schaub is not as good of a decision maker as they were. and he gets rattled, but to be fair, drew has a hard time dealing with the rush. but that has a lot to do with height. as far as yates is concerned, he can make all the throws
manning didnt have a good game when the colts won the superbowl, the colts defense saved the game for the colts. rex grossman and the bears kept making mistakes over and over. so thats why they won that superbowl.
Yates decision making is way worse than Schaub's. You could tell with Kubiak's play-calling during Yates' time last year that he really didn't trust him to run the offense, not nearly as much as he trusts Schaub.
yates got caught trying to force things to andre, his heart was in the right place. these are growing pains, he got some valuable experience going into baltimore in a playoff game. he has tape against a real good d that he can learn from. he also audibled a few times in the baltimore game because the ravens were able to disguise some coverages., kubiak certainly let the kid run loose with the offense. i recall them saying that they didnt even scale back the playbook, they wanted yates to take it all in. no way was he holding things back with yates, it was the same exact offense. yates even had the freedom to change plays as he read the defense.. he did a decent job, he beat 2 playoff teams as his first 2 nfl starts and won a playoff game.. every professional learns through failure.
Finally got people on the Yates bandwagon. Kid can play flat out (good arm and great QB instincts). He must be given time and reps. Guy will develop into a better QB then ****ty schaub.
Wow all of you guys have gotten really off-topic for this thread. We are no longer even talking about Schaub. New thread anyone? I think Schaub is not an elite QB but still a solid one. He could definitely lead the team to a championship this year! Go Texans!!
Yates needs seasoning and experience. Last year was good but he needs more. I would have liked him to play in some of our blowouts [i know there weren't many but . . . ] Rocket River
All you need to know about Yates is that Kubiak gave Schuab a 2 year extension. And all you need to know about Schaub is that when the running game and the defense both disappear against a top team, you realize he's Matt Schaub and not Tom Brady. I've known for a long time that with a running game and solid defense, we can win with Schaub. Hopefully those two things show up in the playoffs.
Or even against Detroit.... Do ya'll not remember three seasons ago? Before Philips and his defense. Before Arian Foster. Schaub only had Andre, Walter, and Jacoby. And yet, we were considered one of the better offensive team even though we didn't have any running game at all.
