I heard the news around 5:30am Down Under and haven't been able to sleep since. I feel sick in my stomach, and my condolences go out to all the families affected by this tragedy.

I'm Man enough to admit that I was choked up and fighting back tears after hearing the news.

I live in Western Sydney, Australia (Fairfield District, by coincidence) and we have a drive by shooting on average every 6 days, but shootings are a rarity in most other cities and states in Australia.

Banning guns isn't the solution though, the criminals will always keep their guns, and as was stated earlier in the thread, if someone wants to go on a killing spree or mass murder, they will find a way...look at china this morning.

Can we stop repeating this nonsense?

Not every mass murder is pre-ordained and inevitable.

    Per cnn

[Updated at 3:22 p.m. ET] It appears that another member of the alleged shooter's family is dead. A senior law enforcement official familiar with the investigation says a brother of the alleged shooter was found dead in a home searched in Hoboken, New Jersey. We already knew the suspect's mother was found dead in the elementary school.

I would like to point out that I agree with you on this. Move this to the D&D, please. Leave this thread for information and questions about what happened/shooter details/channels or news places reporting/etc.

It was actually from NBC this time....they are speculating the police may have a different name, but just aren't releasing it, so that may be how they put the pieces together.
It may also just be a different first name, they said Adam Lanza, not Ryan, has also been thrown around.

I never posted in the hangout before, but I feel like I need to contribute in this situation.

There were 0 casualties in the stabbing in China.

The amount of damage one could do with a gun far far exceeds damage one could with a knife.

I don't want to get into the whole gun control debate, so I'm just putting this out there.

They shouldn't be releasing any names at all until their suspect is confirmed.

Nothing official yet, but MSNBC reports Adam Lanza may be the shooter after all, but was carrying his brother's ID, who is named Ryan, and the person dead at home might be Ryan.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Guns just make it easier.

The information keeps changing, the person arrested may or may not be another brother, or the person dead at home may be the father after all, i guess we'll see.

You call it nonsense, but I hold my statement to be the truth. I don't know about pre-ordained, but most, if not all are pre-meditated.

Bombs do a lot more damage than guns...so do planes flying into buildings.

Rocketsjudoka put it best in his post...Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Guns just make it easier.

Then you are part of a very serious problem. A defeatist, malaise ridden attitude that we cannot do anything to prevent violence or crime, and that people are helpless. That is a terrible outlook and holds us back as a society.

"Murderers gonna murder" is not public policy.

I didn't vote for the man, but I'm proud to call him my President today. He handled it about as best as you could ever imagine. He's going to have some somber visits coming up.
