[BREAKING] School Shooting in Conn. at Elementary School

What happened, did the media report the wrong person, or did the internet just take the name & run with someone with the same name and/or who looked similar?

Are you implying that a sane person would do such a thing?

Or are you implying that placing a legal weapon in the hands of a sane person would somehow make them insane?

Or are you implying that the mental state of the criminal had nothing to do with his actions, and that the ONLY deciding factor is the fact that he held a weapon in his hands?

Listen, I agree with the impulse of outrage and blame, and casting about trying to 'solve' the problem by taking the easiest and most cursory path available - blame the guns.

But it is just not right, and it is why especially in times such as these that calm cool heads need to prevail.

 

I know it's no place to laugh but i sort of did thinking about that poor kid getting threats. His life is gonna be crazy for a bit.

Yes, it does. Regulations exist and have real, practical effects and purposes. You completely ignore this in your post.

This particular crime? Probably not.

But this is an overarching debate about gun violence in general, not just mass murders.

Watching on Univision. They're saying that the gunman shot and killed his dad before proceeding to the school for the shooting. If that's true, wow...

 

I can't even read this thread anymore it's just making me more and more angry. I didn't think it was possible for an individual to be sick and twisted enough to do something this horrific.

 

I typically don't jump into this debate because it's predictable and nothing changes, but I couldn't help it after seeing so many people lying to themselves. Truly amazing. But I agree the D&D is the place for this which is why I don't go there.

I heard a brief snippet of a woman (in tears) who witnessed the police officer telling all the parents that their children did not survive. I couldn't bare seeing THAT, much less being one of those actual parents.

NBC said that was not true...they said it had been believed a parent had been shot before he got to the school, but it was actually the mom, who worked at the school
and was shot.

I guess news is still evolving, but that's what i heard about 10mins ago.

 

I never said they don't. However, that has nothing to do with the very simple assertion I was making, which unfortunately negates most of your argument, so you conveniently dismiss it. Ok, whatever. I was talking about this tragedy, not 'overarching gun violence in general'.

So, just to be clear - is it your position that the gun is MORE responsible than the clearly insane condition of this mass murderer?

 

Fitting that Fox News (Gallagher) would release the video without fact checking that it was the same guy. At least the wrong Ryan will be able to sue the hell out of Fox, and there is precedence for such a suit in a case like this succeeding.

 

If that is the guy, just further proof that something could have helped to stop this. :-(
