this is just sick and disgusting. what kind of human being would walk into an elementary school with the intent to murder? makes me wonder if there is any good left in the world sometimes...

Banning anything never works, see the war on drugs for details. The key issue here is mental health, and finding out if this guy tipped anyone off as to just how bad of a mental state he was in. I have no doubt, like with most of these shootings that if someone would have (and should have) raised alarms earlier, this could have been avoided. Rarely do people just snap overnight, they show clear signs all along the way.

Nobody said that, but you're certainly doing your best to use every single cliche pro-no-gun-control argument before we hit page 5. Anymore trite statements you'd like to add?

    :(:(:(:(

Even if guns are banned and mental health awareness increase, there will still be crazy people committing crazy ****.

There is no perfect society. There will always be some horrible crazy people that will find ways to commit harm onto others.

If it isn't guns, then it will be knives, bombs, or even their own physical hands.

Jesus, at least let the bodies are cold before going into NRA talking points.

And to anticipate your response, no it doesn't go both ways - it's a pretty natural reaction to look at this tragedy and the series that precede and want to rethink our society's unique obsession with guns.

Just offering retorts to the same people blaming an inanimate object for this devastating attack.

Why do you keep bringing this into the discussion when I never proposed it? And please, do not compare guns to cars and drugs. Different things with different purposes that require different regulations.

If mental health exams were as routine as a physical (and didn't cost a crapton like most mental health treatments do), then maybe they would've been able to either 1) identify this guy as not fit to own a weapon or 2) have put him in a better place in life where he didn't lose his s*** and shoot up an elementary school.

This case seems different in that there are multiple shooters.

It could very well have been that these shooters were close friends which just made things worse. They might have tipped off to each other and to no one else.

    I am just speculating though.

No kidding, right? I've never seen such pre-emptive kneejerk defensiveness.

    Right!

If CT had a conceal and carry law maybe some of those kids could have been carrying a gun and this never would have happened.

    you're a joke

What happened to the good old days of people just killing themselves? Now people feel like they need to go out with some type of evil legacy so they think they'll be remembered.

As nearly every single one of these mass shootings prove, society is to blame as a whole. The media will focus on this tragedy for days, and weeks going in to insane detail about the attacks and the man behind it. Others will learn from this and do the same.

People in this country turn a blind eye to mental illness, when it should be at the forefront. Look how long it took people to realize that PTSD was a real disability while tens of thousands of Vietnam vets suffered, many of which committed suicide.

Any connection between the media coverage of the mall shooting last week and today? I'm sure there is.
