Patterson's soft play is infuriating. Not just the lack of rebounds (because, hey, if he was at least blocking out the opponent's PF, I'd cut him slack on his pitiful rebounding numbers), but his overall softness. Watch how he runs out to set a pick, then turns his body to avoid contact. Watch how he floats to the side to avoid challenging someone someone attacking the basket.

I'd much rather have Greg Smith in there, because even though Smith has far less basketball skills than Patterson, he at least plays hard the entire time he is in there.

At some point they will need to look at Donuts or Jones since both have much higher upside. In fact, I think Donuts has the most upside of anyone on the team right now...

Many here do say he's going to be a good NBA player.

He is....but should he be starting? He seems more like a good guy that you'd bring off the bench and not starting.

If we were gonna have a softy pretending he can shoot 3's, i'd rather have someone who can actually hit 3's like Ryan Anderson. I REALLY wish we had Illyasova..

one thing I noticed about Patterson. Dude can not set one good screen.

Greg Smith, you mean the guy who fouled four times in one quarter?
It was Patterson's defensive play. He had a quick rotation to take the charge, and the offensive player tried to avoid him and turned over the ball. Therefore, Patterson is to get the credit.

Ok this is getting beyond belief. The reason why Patterson "cannot set one good screen" is because his defender is already hedging the screen and ready to double Harden. When the screener sees this situation, he is supposed to "slip the screen", as it is named, and cut to the basket/open spot. One is not supposed to actually hit somebody when slipping the screen. So when the double Harden off the screen, he slips it without actually hitting the guard and gets open. And he does set screens, just watch when the double screen for Harden going across the baseline.

Its like we live in a world where if something does not fall into the normal positional stereotype, then it is immediately wrong and they hate it.

PG need assist! PF must rebound!

    Ughhh

It is clear some people have not played competitive basketball in high school or college.

Why does patterson need great rebounding #'s? And dont say that he does a bad job at boxing out. It's not true, especially considering Greg Smith has not heard of a box out before.

Patterson average is 4.9 rebounds 0.5 blocks per game this year

    Lin 4.2 and 0.4

    Harden 4.4 and 0.5

his reboundning and blocks are the as the backcourt

    a disgrace !!

please trade him for milslap 8.4 rebounds 1 block per game

Why shouldn't he improve his rebounding. If he was a more consistent rebounder guys like Parsons & Harden would be able to leak out & get back in transition faster for full court passes.

People improve their rebounding over time. Rarely is there a case where somebody peaks their rebounding when they are young.

We are near the top of the league in fast break points. Why are you complaining? Harden already leaks out consistently, and a SF should NEVER leak out. He has to rebound.

Everyone is complaining about how soft he played this last game... He had 3 blocks?? His rebounding #s are completely dependent on Asik. Patterson usually clears out and Omer gobbles up the ball. He doesn't need great rebounding #s with Asik on the floor. He does a great job of spacing on offense and sometimes putting his back to the basket. He's having a great year... If we were a bad rebounding team and he weren't rebounding well, then it would be a problem...

To be fair. I don't think Parsons, Harden, and Lin consciously go after rebounds because they said to themselves, "Man, Pat isn't going to get the rebounds. I damn sure must try my hardest to get them or else..."

Rebounding, like shooting, is as much an instinct as a technique. Some people have strong rebounding instinct and some people don't. It has nothing to do with size. Being big helps you physically get rebounds but it doesn't help your instinct. You can tell Parsons, Harden and Lin all have good rebounding instinct. Patterson just doesn't have it.

Kevin Martin frequently gets cherry pick fastbreak points because he never goes after defensive rebounds. His instinct is that as soon as the opponent shoots, he leaks out to the other end.

Rebounding is 50% mental. Some are just geared to fight for the ball. Tremendous size is not necessarily a component of an excellent rebounder (e.g. Rodman, Faried).

Getting some blocks doesn't mean you aren't soft. Even Pau Gasol can get blocks.

And Pat's been a bad rebounder before we had Asik
