After the creation of this thread, he's likely to go off for like 5 sacks on Sunday

Nothing like a loss to get everyone on a hate thread.

    My Thirty-Four Cents:

-Yes, his two sacks in 13 games has been a big let down, and the lack of hurries and QB hits back it up as being more than just fluke bad luck.

-Teams are game planning for his/the defense more. They had an offseason to take a look at film and break down how to hamper the pass rush. Wade's scheme isn't brand new, so there's history to work with.

In particular, starting from week 1, it's been apparent that most teams know they need to run a more up tempo offense against us. QBs are being drilled to get the ball out immediately. Lesser QBs (Tannehill, Gabbert, Sanchez, etc) aren't able to make us pay, but the Bradys and Rodgers of the world sure can.

-Losing Cushing was a big blow to our success up front. The biggest thing he gave Wade was the freedom to send 5 guys forward and still employ a nickelback with Cushing manning the middle solo. Only a handful of guys in this league can give you that. Without him, Wade has sent only 4 much more often than he had (less effective) or has gambled with man coverage (giving QBs a mismatch to exploit quickly). This has been no less than half the problem, and it's no coincidence that we haven't been the same without him.

-Cody's injury was another bad hit. Mitchell did what he could, but we couldn't collapse the pocket well and teams enjoyed success sending the outside rushers wide and too far back often during those games.

-With Wade more frequently only sending 4, and Watt the only guy commanding a double, teams are handling the rush just fine with 6, sometimes even with only 5.

-We set expectations a little high for Barwin. Let's be fair: last year came out of nowhere and could have been a fluke. It was his second full season, and first at WOLB. Plus, a third of his sack total came out of one ridiculous game (4 @TB).

-He's actually done a nice job with 6 stuffs and is on pace for the same number of tackles as last year.

I get that we're all frustrated with the lack of sacks, but I doubt any of us are as frustrated about it as he is. He's watching millions of dollars disappear in front of his eyes. You can't seriously sit back and say he's not trying or is more concerned with the letter jackets. He's got plenty of pressure on him to get to the QB and he knows it.

Barwin only has an outside rush, he has absolutely NO COUNTER moves. All you have to do is beat him to the corner, teams watched tape and figured him out.

BTW...Rick Smith was never really contemplating keeping Barwin. He was just saying that to appease all of you fans who were more worried about signing Barwin to an extension than Schaub. Rick and I knew that Barwin was replaceable.

merciless has 6 sacks already in a very limited role (well pre-reed injury) that is more sacks than reed and barwin combined!!!!!!!!!! that is pathetic... i think next year we need to start merciless and get another OLB and you will see this defense be much improved

good point most of the time you see him try to run really fast past the tackle only to be pushed out of the play ... i think the book on him is, take a step back and then as he is coming on his arc push him out

This is the best explanation of his fall off this year.

Yep... Seems like Barwin ALWAYS ends up behind the QB.

I could never tell who was the guy who is ALWAYS wide of the quarterback. Atleast once a game I think to myself "dude just cut inside, you got him".

I think the complete opposite of this post. He hasn't been able to do anything on the field and I do not expect he will start now.
I do expect Rick Smith to already be looking for a replacement.

Sad thing is, if this is his last year with us, it doesn't Sound like the fans will miss him.

Why? Because we lost to new England? Get out of here with that. They look sweet and we are having the best year as a franchise and are looking forward to only good things. Give me one good reason why they are a joke. Its about what they represent. I think its awesome.

They were talking about him on 790 yesterday.

Lance seems to think that he is isn't quick enough to be a true pass-rushing OLB in the 3-4. A lot of his sacks last year came from the inside. So this year, teams are forcing him to the outside where he just isn't quick enough to get around the tackle.

Lettermans jackets were cool - back in high school. They are seldom seen on the college level. The only team that has them are the Texans. They make the team look dorky.
