Pass up an open shot or get benched. This team passes up more open shots than any other team in the history of basketball. And a lot of those are Jeremy Lin shots. The team will benefit from learning to trust each other. Look at the Spurs. I say our team is as talented. Just shoot the open shot dammit, better than a turnover, which we lead the league in. Thoughts?

We don't know what the coach's instruction to the players is, so it's hard to say it's a Lin's shot or Harden's shot, or what the consequences are if you do not follow instruction. After all, it's not the first time we've seen Lin take (and make a shot) and is immediately subbed out and benched.

Speaking of the Spurs, I re-watched the Spurs version of the game and Sean Elliott spoke highly of Lin's game and the Rockets offense. At one point he said, "The Rockets are looking more like that Spurs than we do. They are moving the ball, making extra passes, and finding the open man..." Knowing how pro-Spurs Elliott is, that's a great compliment.

I haven't been able to watch the last few games, but isn't our strategy to take the three whenever wherever?

Key to improving the Rockets offense is teaching all of our front court players how to set effective picks & screens. Every single one of them. Asik is pretty good & so is Greg Smith. Everybody else needs to learn this. Parsons, Patt (him most importantly) etc.

If you look at the best teams in the NBA screen setting is the fundamental aspect of an effective offense. Pretty much every Knicks possession starts with a screen, Tyson for Felton. Spurs, Duncan for Parker. Lakers, Howard for Nash (when he gets back). etc

So they should wait till the defenders close in and it's no longer an open shot before they shoot? Or would you rather they just keep passing till the shot clock expires?

our offense, while not perfect, is not the issue. Its our defense. So whats the key to that?

We are really good defenders in the half court. It is our transition defense that is killing us. Although our defense seems to be getting slightly better. At least it was pretty good against the Wizards. Although the Wizards are a terrible offensive team lol so hard to tell if it was our rugged defense or the Wizards terrible offense.

Unfortunately I don't. :( I have League Pass thru DirecTV so the games are on my DVR. (DirecTV offer broadcasts from both teams for most games so I usually record both versions.)

I agree. One of the trend i've noticed recently is Lin pass up good shots to look for great shots, but always gets trapped in the process, thus even the good shots are gone.
We all know Lin is a high-IQ player; and this is a classic example that this is working against him. His unwillingness to take bad shots, in this case "okay" shots, in order to look for great shots; wasting energy and run the clock down. This is has to change. He needs to learn to take the Okay shots.

    the offense is good

but they could be getting easier shots

this will lead to less energy expenditure which means more to spend on defense.

Thoughts???--- what team are you watching? or are you just watching one player on this team??

    Offense isn't the problem-

    Pace - 99.6 (#1 in NBA)
PPG- 104.5 average (3rd in NBA)

On offense they are getting up more shots than any other team. On defense, they are giving up just as many. I would say THATS the problem right there.

This is true. The Rockets tend to overpass Lin in particular.

Something that I think will do wonders in terms of improving our overall offense over the long run. I think Lin & Harden need to learn how to score in different ways. Right now they are pretty much the same player they both score there best off of the PNR & Iso. The difference is that Harden is elite at it where as Lin is just very good. The other difference is that Lin is right dominant where as Harden is left dominant.

I think both Lin & Harden need to diversify there scoring game outside of the PNR & isoation. Both should try to add a post game, Lin is a big guard, bigger than a lot of guards in the NBA he could learn how to post up other guards kind of like Andre Miller does. Lin also should learn how to cut more when off the ball. I have seen some improvement on that score with him. Harden as well should add a post game & learn how to cut as well.

Obviously this will all take time, both players would need a off season to develop these skills & then another season to apply them. I was watching Parker & Manu highlights the other day, both guys play off each other so well while maintaining there creativity & dynamism. Obviously this is all dependent on whether the Rockets are committed to keeping the two of them together.

    Just a few thoughts.

I'm so confused as to what you're asking the team to do

The key to the improved offence is passing up open shots?

Or you think to key to improving the offence is to just shoot the ball?

It's well worth noting that we score the 3rd most points of any team in the NBA. This is a massive jump on previous seasons - so your comments are rather redundant (and confusing).
