<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Three-team trade, per source, will look like this: Choo, Jason Donald to <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23Reds">#Reds</a>, Gregorius to <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23Diamondbacks">#Diamondbacks</a>, Stubbs, AZ pitcher to <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23Indians">#Indians</a>.</p>— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) <a href="https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/278661995618787329" data-datetime="2012-12-12T00:46:11+00:00">December 12, 2012</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
By the way, that "AZ pitcher" turns out to be....... Trevor Bauer. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>BREAKING: Cleveland acquires 4 players in 3-way trade with Arizona & Cincinnati, including 2 former first-round picks...</p>— Cleveland Indians (@Indians) <a href="https://twitter.com/Indians/status/278684477675413504" data-datetime="2012-12-12T02:15:31+00:00">December 12, 2012</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>...new <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23Indians">#Indians</a> include (from ARI) RHP Trevor Bauer, RHP Matt Albers, RHP Bryan Shaw & (from CIN) OF Drew Stubbs…</p>— Cleveland Indians (@Indians) <a href="https://twitter.com/Indians/status/278684539881132034" data-datetime="2012-12-12T02:15:46+00:00">December 12, 2012</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Choo is solid, a bit underrated. Don't know much about Gregorious other than seeing the name on prospects lists. Surprised AZ would move Bauer at this point, though I've read some scouts who are pretty down on him.
Prior to the trade D-Backs had 3 pitchers in the top 20 prospects according to MLB.com. Bauer, Skaggs, and Archie Bradley. Looks like Bauer was a casualty of perceived depth. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bauer struggle at the major league level. His usual comp is Tim Lincecum, and well, there's only one freak.
Arizona didn't have a good relationship with him, and there are concerns. Arizona does have good depth in the rotation after signing McCarthy. They could afford to give one up, but Bauer is considered to have the highest celings of their young arms.
That's interesting. If the D-Backs believed he had the highest ceiling you'd think that relationship is worth trying to repair. Absolutely. Put on your GM hat for a second. Don't you think Lowrie is more valuable for an Arizona club that seems to be close to contention, than DiDi freaking Gregorious? Hell I could make the argument that Jonathon Villar is more valuable than DiDi G.
I would absolutely rather have Vilar than Gregorious. Compare their lines in the minors last year. It's no contest. Villar is a year younger as well.
So Rangers pitching staff is: Darvish Holland Harrison Lewis ??? Will be interesting to see if the league catches up to Darvish...that seems to happen to a lot of imported pitchers after a year or so.
Been keeping an eye on the Blue Jays and the talks with the Mets for R.A. Dickey, I'm shocked that thy are willing to give up d'Arnaud and Syndergaard for Thole and Dickey, who is in the last year of his contract. It seems insane to trade your top prospect (a top 25 prospect in the MLB) and one of your top pitching prospects for a 38 year old knuckle ballet coming off a career year. This trade looks more lopsided than the Rays-Royals trade.
