I would write "PG" and "SG" with permanent markers on the back of Lin's and Harden's jerseys and simply tell them play like Game 1 and Game 2.
And they can ask the real coaches to sign them the next day.

On the days Lin has more than 30 points, I would give him "Ron Jeremy" jersey. :p

All of these are great ideas and I would've repped, but you didn't put a closed parenthesis after the 5 :(

    What about:

Tell Patterson if he gets more rebounds or blocks than Asik in the game, he remains a starter and make him watch tapes of Barkley, Rodman, and Big Ben during for 24 hours straight before the game.

Also if he gets fewer rebounds than the guards or less than 6, he can't eat his favorite Chipotles. Double Chipotles if he can get more than Asik.

You gotta find the right carrot to keep him motivated.

Assuming we are not trying to artificially increase someone's numbers for trading purposes or that we are trying to tank or that I need to promote some selfish agenda to show how smart certain coaches are? Then:

    1. Play Greg Smith 35 minutes (and tell him that he will be playing 35 minutes so he allocates his fouls--yes, it is possible for him to play smarter--to all of those people who keep saying he will foul out).

    2. Play Harden and Lin 36 minutes each, and give Lin playmaking duties while freeing Harden with off-the ball screens.

    3. Tell Harden that he will only play 36 minutes so he can go all out on defense.

    4. Bench Delfino, Morris, and any other jokers immediately if they try to run the fastbreak without looking for Lin with the outlet pass.

    5. Play the following ahead of Patterson: Smith (of course) and Morris. Depending upon matchups, possibly DMot and Jones.

Against the Wiz tonight, I'd rest our sore-ankled starters. I'd go with:

    Douglas/Cook
    Parsons/Cook/Delfino
    Morris/Delfino
    Jones/Moti
    Smith/Aldrich

and have Asik, Lin, and Harden suited up, just in case.

On the serious note, here are my Top 3:

    1. DEFENSE Accountability:
    - Keep everyone accountable on defense including the stars. They need to set example for role players. Third strike deserve 5 min benching to get some coaching.
    - Whoever blows defensive assignment letting wide-open 3PTs will do 2 suicide drill each.

    2. Clearly defined ROLES:
    - Involve Lin early and often in ball-handling.
    - Let Lin and Harden handle 50% and 30% of playmaking. Let Toney, Delfino, Parsons do 10%, 5% and 5%.
    - Limit Harden's iso if he misses 3 in a row. Don't overuse Harden to prevent injuries
    - PFs needs to block and get 8-10 rebounds.
    - In 80% possession, get a minimum 3-4 passes before shooting unless wide-open.
    - 3PT shooters need to STOP shooting if they get 2 misses in a row. Penetrate and get fouls!

    3. Keep Coaches Accountable
    - Define clear substitution roles
    - Define how the 2nd team will get points or defend to not blow 10-11 pt leads
    - No weird substitution patterns confusing your players
    - All coaches need to do suicide drills if they don't keep players accountable.

Awesome question. I love these hypotheticals.

    1. Work on defensive principles
    - help Asik with his footwork and where he places himself. Same with PatPat.
    - have our perimeter players defend by forcing opponent guards away from the middle.
    - ask Harden to set a defensive example for the team.
    - work on communicating, ESPECIALLY IN TRANSITION.

    2. Work on individual players
    - tell PatPat to hustle on the boards. Please. Maybe get him to do the Mikan drill or something. Asik can't be the only rebounder for us.
    - Lin is usually a non-factor when he's not handling the ball. Call more pick and rolls or pops for him. Have him be the facilitator while Harden reaps the benefits.

    3. Work on offense
    - emphasize spacing and off-the-ball movement to our players when they're on the weak-side.
    - INSTRUCT OUR PLAYERS ON HOW TO SET PROPER SCREENS.

For the record, this is what I would run for last possession of tied games.

What would I do? NOT sit Lin and Harden on the bench at the same time. :D

I think this could be a great thread idea. Since most people seem to know more than coach, what would they run with the game on the line?

I would start and give heavy minutes to every non-rotation D-league caliber scrublord currently with the Rockets, just so I don't have to hear about their hypothetical greatness any longer.

You'd have to be a very/very poor coach to only coach for 1 day??? Do you mean just 1 game on a professional team??? This ain't substitute teaching in High School...
