My logic states that unless that you can prove that something is factual based on evidence that can be verified by anybody, anywhere and anytime, I will not believe it to be true.

Your logic states that because we don't understand how tsunamis are created, then it must be Poseidon. Since we can't explain how thunder and lightning appears cccurs, then it must be Thor. I can site plenty of examples of what we (as men) deemed as fact which is now very laughable.

With regards to your cake analogy, what makes it a cake is because of the chemical reaction that occurs when you have certain atomic particles induced to certain conditions. I will agree that the possibility of nature reproducing a cake on it's own is very, very slim, but the it still exists. In addition, how do you think we were able to determine how to make cakes? Through experimentation and detailed observation correct? It still boils down to getting the facts right.

I don't agree with you "religion of man" statement. My take is..

IF A MAN CANNOT SEE IT, CANNOT EXPLAIN IT, CANNOT DO IT, THEN MAN MUST ADMIT THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWEDTO PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION THAT CANNOT BE PROVEN.

Logic and RR don't belong in the same sentence.

Why, because I don't want to get in a debate? People can't prove that there is not a God any more than I can prove that there is. So having an argument based on faith and beliefs is a giant waste of time. You either believe or you don't.

Exactly. My only issue is that RR seems to think people are more uncomfortable in their decision based on fact (with or without religion) than those who's decision is based on ignorance (with religion). RR has always been an atheist bigot, but this involves an idea that atheists and some christians both believe and he's still squirrly about it.

Question for Atheists then... do they believe in intelligent alien life even though they can't see it? Statistically speaking it is clearly evident that there is probably alien life out there, yet we don't know for sure.

As an A-side, I believe in alien life as a Christian simply because of the evidence of water elsewhere. Although I have no clue if it would be intelligent or not.

Nothing in evolution says anything about God, it is the best SCIENTIFIC theory about biological beings on earth known currently. It does not try to prove there is a god or there isn't a god. If there is a better SCIENTIFIC theory that can explain the facts better, anyone is welcome to bring it forward and let it be tested by the scientific community. Many religious people constantly attack this theory without bring forward a viable SCIENTIFIC theory to replace it.

There are just as many crazy religious people as there are crazy non-religious people. I'd say 95% of the people in my life believe in a higher power, and none of them doubt evolution, they simply debate the extent of it like many people.

If you and I were facing each other in a conversation, and I told you there was a ghost standing behind you about 5 seconds ago, what would be the proper question to ask?

    - you asking, prove to me that there was a ghost?
    or
    - me asking you the question, prove to me that there wasn't one?

Shifting the burden of proof does not get you anywhere.

This is another misconception about Atheism. As though we have this document where ALL atheist has to abide by. The only commonality amongst us is that we don't believe the god claims because of the lack of evidence. Other than that, our opinions vary on all different subjects.

As far as I am concerned, the probability of having alien life forms on another planet is very high but I won't believe that it is a fact until there is evidence to support it.

Meh, don't want to derail this thread. Yes, there is a huge possiblity that there is life out there, we have proof that life can exist in this universe under certain "goldilocks" conditions (our planet). The possiblities of another 'Earth' in the universe is almost ridiculous to deny...the real questions are, how many others?... and how far away are they? oh, and will they be friendly if they find us first?

The point I was trying to make is that it is hypocritical of non-believers making fun of believers on just about any subject where there isn't overwhelming proof for or against said belief... especially if they believe in something that doesn't have overwhelming proof either.

    The answers are:

    Too many to count.

    Too far currently.

Some will be friendly and some will not.

    Any other questions? :p

You are asserting that ALL non-believers subscribe to the same logic. Just because one atheist says one thing, that doesn't mean that we are in agreement with that person. Atheism deals with religious claims - that's it and nothing else. Believing or not believing in aliens or other conspiracy theories has nothing to do with being an atheist.

What the hell? You thought you had a gotcha moment on something that makes no sense.

    You're interpretation of an atheist:
    1. An atheist doesn't believe in things they can't see.
    2. You can't see god
Therefore, an atheist doesn't believe in god

    1. There is statistical evidence that aliens are out there
    2. You can't see aliens
Therefore, an atheist denies statistical evidence
Therefore, sometimes you don't have to see to believe

The PROBLEM is, you got the original thought process wrong

The correct interpretation of an atheist:
    1. An atheist doesn't believe in something that has no evidence for its existence
    2. There is no evidence that god exists
Therefore, an atheist doesn't believe in god

    1. An atheist doesn't believe in something that has no evidence for its existence
    2. There is statistical evidence that aliens are out there
Therefore, an atheist can reasonably believe aliens exist.

    Logic, dude. Use it.

However, the majority of people who are Atheist that I've debated with use the lack of proof as their reason for not believing. So it is wholly logical to challenge that stance on other issues to show flaw in their sweeping generalizations on religious believers.

Evidence in and of itself is not proof. There is evidence that there is a God, see Mila Kunis for details. I'm not trying to have a gotcha moment, just trying to make a point. I don't give a **** what you believe.

Waa?! There is proof of life in the universe (us) though, I think almost 7 billion human lifeforms in addition to billions of other non-human lifeforms is pretty overwhelming evidence, don't you?

Finding another planet like ours would be easier with a Star Trek Enterprise to cruise around in...unfortunately we aren't there yet.
