According to Gallup, link at the bottom. It seems dubious to have a contradictory option in a poll on evolution such as "Humans evolved, with God guiding". The 'god guiding' negates the belief in evolution and defers it to intelligent design or something else that is not evolution. Am I right? http://www.gallup.com/poll/21814/evolution-creationism-intelligent-design.aspx
In reality, few things are cut and dry, black and white. This is what amuses me about social issues and politics; If someone find themselves agreeing nearly with everything a certainly party follows, I would have to say they are part of the "85% dumb as hell". Intelligent design doesn't automatically equal to a religious zealot and evolution doesn't automatically equal to atheist. Both are unproven theories in the creation of the universe and I am certainly am not going to be so arrogant and say that if someone disagrees with me, they are stupid.
I hate when the terms believe and evolution are in the same sentence. Should be "15% of America denies data supported by mountains of evidence, evolution"
You aren't arrogant, you are ignorant. I mean that in the nicest possible way. Creationism is not a theory. A scientific theory is "a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment." Evolution is... A ""a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment." Evolution was not invented, it was built from the foundation up on rock solid facts and fossils.
yeah I would say 47% believe in evolution per that poll 15% are atheists who also believe in evolution evolution doesn't explain why the universe exists (or how it began)
I'm an atheist, but i can also respect the opinion of somebody who believes god created the planet and set the process of human evolution in motion. We're all kind of going on theories with regard to this planets creation, atheist or not. But we have mountains of evidence against recent creationism, so the fact that so many people still believe it disturbs me a little.
I don't think there is a scientific conflict to believe that God guided Evolution as long as one acknowledges the process of mutation and natural selection. Its not a scientific belief but a faith issue. To me it would be same as believing that God guided the Rockets to a win. You can trace the game as a sequence of events where the actions of individual players resulted in a win but at the same time believing that these events were predestined as part of some metaphysical plan. More concerning are the 46% that believe that God created humans in their present form.
Don't forget the clearest evidence of all - genetics. When this new branch of science came about, the creationist celebrated because they now have a tool that will forever prove that Darwin was wrong. To their surprise, this was the nail in the coffin that clearly proved everybody had a common ancestry.
Most biologist will disagree with you about that. Mutation and natural selection has been proven to be a fact.
They certainly would not be stupid to disagree with you, they would be quite correct in doing so, since evolution has absolutely nothing to do with the creation of the universe. Also, evolution is not an unproven theory, you are using the wrong version of the word "theory". Bro do you even science?
I have no problem with people trying to poke holes in evolutionary theory. Good science should welcome all challengers. Instead of ridicule and defensiveness, proponents should relish when someone asks "How does evolutionary theory explain X?". Any theory that relies on observational study (rather than controlled experiments) is worthy of increased skepticism and scrutiny (yes you can do mutation in a controlled environment, but not on the time scales that evolutionary theory deals with). That being said, the fact that no alternative hypothesis exists that doesn't rely on the mystical makes evolutionary theory all the more credible.
Evolution doesn't answer the one question, Why? It's human nature to use God to help answer that question. Regardless, I say 47% believe in evolution.
I'm a Christian who believes in evolution. There is no denying Darwin's findings, however I don't personally believe we evolved from apes or originated from single-cell organism. I think a lot of people who believe in a higher power believe something along the same lines. Please don't bother trying to contradict me, or prove me wrong. I have my faith in what I believe in, and nothing said on a message board will change that. So don't waste your time.
Define Evolution I ask because . . . I have always though of it as a process. Whereas you seem to think of it as something else. I don't think intelligent design negates evolution I think of it as Baking and The Baker Baking is the process - Evolution The Baker initiate and guided the process - God It seems alot of folx seem more comfortable with the idea the cake just miraculously came together to be this nice tasty treat. . . .. Why does the idea of guidence make people so uncomfortable. Rocket River
Because about 50% don't believe in the idea of guidance...they believe in creationism...that is not guidance, that's "poof, Here are the humans". According to the info your way of thinking isn't what most God-fearin Christians believe.
