We need a consistent scoring threat at the PF position

Motiejunas is our best bet, once he masters some of the finer points of the game and improves his defense. He has low post moves and range, he just needs to bulk up a little for the battles he will get into down low, since at first he won't get the super star calls, popular big men that don't have skills need to boost their numbers outside of put backs.

    PF

I want a PF that can rebound, protect the paint and knock people down once in a while.

I think the O is fine. But if we could pair Asik with another banger, our wings could step out on the shooters a lot more and other players wouldn't be slashing into the lane as much.

I also really hope we can turn Parsons into a lock-down defender, or get someone who can. We need Harden to score on O so we NEED someone to cover for him on D.

We got boatloads of cap space but I don't really see anyone on the market that I want. Hopefully we can find it all in-house. Either way, Rockets are in a great position for the next few years if they can keep it together.

In preseason it was a lot of expectations on D-Mo, and he's the only one PF that didn't get his chance so far in this season. He is not the best defender, but offensive skills looks like better than any other PF on this team. Also rebounds, even knowing he's poor defender D-Mo had most rebounds (defensive) in euroleague last season with 6.4 in 30mins (more than twice better than Patterson grabs in this season lol). We have to make changes, it's not working well in this rotation.

Then what about Reggie Evans, he's not a young blood, but defensive work looks solid iwth rebounds ahead. Last three season Evans is the beast in rebounting:

11.5rpg in 26.6 minutes with Toronto
4.9rpg in just 13.8 minutes with Clippers
8.7rpg in 20.6 minutes this season with Nets

We have scorers, and if we need defensive PF with good rebounting then let's trade Patterson for Evans. Is it real at all?

Kevin Love haha...THAT would change things for sure.

Evans? Not sure man, he's a beast from Philly (like me haha) but his age is the issue. Wanna keep this team young. Hopefully one of the young bigs is the real deal.

No PF is gonna make Houston contenders . Our bench is still horrible and our starters are inconsistent . Watch Mello and his team full of vets best BK last night if you want to see what contenders look, like

Be careful what you wish for. You just may get it. Because unless PPat's replacement is a star, then those rebounds will also have no floor spacing attached, meaning much smaller spacing for Harden and Lin to operate. I hope you haven't forgotten how much opponents could beat the crap out of Yao with double/triple teams because we had no PF who could shoot a lick for most of his career.

All players have big weaknesses, except stars. And I don't see any team begging someone to take their star PF off their hands.

Well if Paterson was getting it do we would not have this thread. His playing time is to up his trade value, IMO. We have seen to much of him and his trade value has peeked and is starting to drop. Cut back on his mins or trade him already (the 15 can not get here fast enough). We could already have our answer in Jones and/or Motiejunas. I like them both. Or even Morris would fit next to Asik.
Patterson needs to go and we need a point or wing in return. All the front court needs is time to grow; IMO, it is soild for years to come.

No. Lin and Harden need time together. Having two good play makers is not a bad thing. It just takes a lot of work. A season much less 20 games is not enough time. Gasol is too old and no longer the player the Rockets need.

    Agreed.

I hate the knee-jerk threads that want them to fix the chemistry immediately, these things take more than just 20 games, especially with the coaching upheaval due to McHale's daughter.

You mean that team the rockets beat by like 30?

to whoever heard moreys interview on the radio, did he elaborate at all on d-mo not coming close to cracking the rotation? As someone else mentioned he really is a perfect fit. And the defensive drop off is negligible. Defense is about scheme and effort, thats what we need to work on. And there on only a handful of guys that could really abuse d mo on the post, really just guys on memphis, utah, and LA. He should be able to hold his own against most teams. That blowout vs the spurs was really upsetting. To have the entire bench in for the 4th but only bring him on w/ 2 mins left?! With the kind of pride he has im sure that killed him

Let's play Patterson 45 minutes a game and crank up his numbers until the 15th. The Wizards are a perfect place to start. I don't think he'll be wearing himself out by grabbing too many rebounds or beating too many people up.

This is true. There may be less spacing, and things might look uglier on the offensive end, but I'll take the wins instead. I'm ok with Harden and Lin shooting a slightly lower percentage, if it means more offensive rebounds, more putbacks, more intimidation, better screens, more defensive presence, and opponents "blocking themselves" because they are scared shi*les* when they go to the hole because we've got tough defensive bigs there (like the way Patterson and Morris have stuffed themselves on wide open drives to the hoop because they were cowering in fear of Howard, who doesn't even play dirty).

Maybe that's a little bit out of the box, but I would love to see Anderson Varejao here, playing as PF. Beside being a fabulous rebounder, he has good passing, nice D, constantly sets screens, and this year he is showing a nice midrange jumper.

I think he is well fitted to play PF alongside Asik as a center since he provides hustle and mobility. And, he is actually a player that is already under trade talks, so, maybe he can be available..
