Rockets won't trade expiring for a player that isn't a core piece as they want to preserve cap space for max.

i have no f'n idea what the f you just said.. but our young guys are not learning/developing from mchale who has no offensive systems or sets.. Mchale admitted it himself he runs no offense and Lin confirmed it yesterday saying they didnt really run any sets and he just went out and played. Mchale sucks and offers nothing to our developing players.. dont even know why he hired his ass in the first place.

Depending on our confidence in getting Kevin Love to come in a couple of years, having McHale here would be a key element to making that happen. It's probably not a factor that our front office is giving serious thought, but just something to consider.

You may as well be p!ssing into the wind. If he does it will be unforeseen. Speculation on the unknowable is a waste of time.

Why trade when he's about to become FA 2013?.

If we're gonna trade, we do it for someone tied up in a contract and unhappy where they are... Love or LMA? (not FA till 2015)

A smaller trade might involve PPat, TD, Cook (fingers crossed)

I disagree. From the eye test (certainly not the most reliable indicator) they look much better on offense than they did at the start of the season. Defensively though is a different story. However defense probably can be taught, but for most players it takes time to mature. How many Parsons are in the league? And actually without Harden the last game, the offense looked pretty good. But integrating in a franchise SG may raise some problems. See Kobe Bryant.

If you trade for expiring core piece, you get bird rights. No need to cut Delfino, Smith, Machado. No need to relinquish rights to Aldrich, Douglas, Cook. Cap hold allows Rockets to have MLE. With trading for a player, you can use cap space on a player this season to help a team avoid luxury tax.

Granted all these benefits may not apply depending on what its going out. I think getting player at deadline opens a lot of options for Rockets that may out weigh what is being sent out.

    Lakers: DeAndre Jordan, Josh Smith

Hawks: Pau Gasol, Terence Jones, Cole Aldrich, Lakers' 1st

Clippers: Dwight Howard, Patrick Patterson, Rockets' 1st

    Rockets: Blake Griffin, Kyle Korver

Too lazy to go thru trade checker but solves everyone's problem with possible exception of Clips. Although Dwight and Chris Paul have been trying to get together forever.

Rockets give up the least yet receive the best player? Uhm...

Lakers give up two superstar players in exchange for two lesser ones at those positions? Doubtful.

Kupchak isn't gonna make drastic moves until he sees what a healthy squad can do under the new coach. He'd be dumb to break it up so soon.

I definitely wouldn't count on any deals happening in December. In February yes.

As a backup plan to a blockbuster deal, you can almost bank on the following move/s happening-

-Aldrich, Cook, Douglas will all be moved as expirings. Morey will probably use their cap space to bring in a higher salary player or players on expiring contracts to A. save the team he is trading with $ from lux tax implications, and B. Get something in return for their troubles like a draft pick albeit probably a late fist round pick at best. Also wouldn't be surprised to see the Rockets pick up a young wing player or PG as well that they can put in their system for a couple years to try and groom.

    the other possible moves-

-The Carlos Defino situation- contending teams will be looking to aquire Carlos in a big way at the deadline. Im not 100% sure that he's going to be traded or not, but I can guarantee you that on his contract(very shrewd contract) that has a team option for next year, a contending team could see him as a major piece to add around the all-star break. (Memphis seems like a perfect fit right now).

If Carlos is seen as a Battier like difference maker in the playoffs(which I think he will), I dont think its hard to see a team giving up at the very least a first rounder for Carlos. I think Carlos getting dealt is probably going to be reliant on how the Rockets shape out in the playoff standings. If it looks like they are def. going to be in the mix, Carlos might stick around.

-The Patrick Patterson situation- I personally dont see them in any hurry to move him in February unless this team is heading south quick, and they feel like they can get a first round pick for him. Also somebody really needs to be pushing for a breakout campaign either in practice or in the gametime minutes they are recieving to force the Rockets to move Patrick. I dont see anyone right now really making that an easy decision for the Rockets.

Still, the name of the game is draft picks here, so I wouldn't be shocked if Morey pulled the trigger if it got the Rockets yet another first rounder.

-So long story short, unless a blockbuster star trade goes down, here are probably the most likely trade scenarios I could see play out most likely resulting in the Rockets acquiring multiple draft picks that they can either use themselves next Summer, or more than likely flip with a young player for another cornerstone player in the near future.

I would say best trade and most possible. I would add-in DMo.

    PPat for TJones + Dmo.

    This I like

One possibility that hasn't been brought up is that Morey may take a salary dump beyond this year. Unless they're eyeing a specific RFA that no one's talking about, it's possible there's no FA this offseason worth spending ~$15mil/yr on, which is what the Rockets could conceivably spend if they get rid of some deadweights, like Delfino's unguaranteed contract. As in, perhaps a Jared Jefferies type of salary and a fairly high 1st round pick to go along with it. And try to find that other foundational player via trade or 2014 offseason, which potentially can be a huge boom.

Also, I think there's a chance the Rockets try to bolster their wing position through a minor trade. Similar to a Battier for Thabeet or Rafer for Lowry type of swap.

    Don't forget Aldrich.

And both Pau and Dwight were traded for less. Three (4 if you include Aldrich) 1st round picks is nothing to sneeze at. The core of the trade is there even if more fringe pieces are required.

If it makes you feel better we can package another 1st pick (non lottery protected), TD, Delfino and rights to Llull, Newley and Eliyahu.

It makes just as much sense as the advocated trades for Love, JSmith or LMA. Rockets do not have a lot of ammo, it terms of vet names. They have young players and picks. Trade is not likely, but not unheard of.

Lakers are interested in Josh Smith. Pau Gasol will not be a Laker next season. Josh Smith will not be a Hawk next season. Atlanta is rebuilding. Howard and Paul are close friends and have always wanted to play together. Griffin would be ideal 2nd option for the Rockets, it does not hurt that he, Lin & Parsons appear to be buds. And Morey has a way of inserting the Rockets in multiple team trades.

    Again, unlikely, but not impossible.

If there is a good move to be made, then he will make it; if not, then he will just be going "My precious..." all December.

well, let me tell you why this is impossible:
    1. LAC won't trade with LAL. When was that happened ever before (remind me) , not to mention giving them Howard?
    2. LAC won't trade Griffin, period
    3. When did you see LAL did a trade, and end up as the less gained team in it?
    4. the financial doesn't work.
