Schaub is not elite. Here is why... His numbers in the 5 nationally televised games this season: Schaub has combined for 96 completions on 167 attempts, 3 TDs, and 7 INTs...for a grand total of a 65 quarterback rating. For reference, Mark Sanchez has a season rating of 72. His highest rating in any of the 5 games came against the Lions...it was a 78 rating. Basically, on par with what Blaine Gabbert has done this season. If we are looking at one or two nationally televised games, I would say that it is too small of a sample size. However, 5 games (almost 40% of the season) have been played on the big stage...and Schaub has been pretty terrible. Look at the elite QBs in the NFL during their nationally televised games...sure, they may have one mediocre or bad game out of the bunch, but all in all, they usually hold about a 100 rating otherwise. Brady, in his 3 national games, has a 121 rating. Rodgers has a 101 rating in 4 games. Brees has played 4 games...one of them was a stinker in which he threw 5 INTs and zero TDs...but in the other 3 games, he had 8 TDs to 2 INTs and a 101 rating. The elite QBs step up in the big games under the bright lights. In the 5 games that Schaub has had that opportunity, the best performance he could muster up was one in which it was on par with Blaine Gabbert...the rest of his performances have all been worse than what Mark Sanchez brings to the table. We can discuss his records and stats all we want...but that's all irrelevant when he doesnt carry a team to victory when everyone is watching and the pressure is on. Elite QBs, however, do just that.
No, you absolutely cannot argue that. Both AJ and Schaub stated that this was the biggest regular season game in the team's history. The game last night was HUGE for every man in that locker room. Sure, at the end of the season, the game might be meaningless from a standings point of view...but you better believe that all those guys know that they got their asses handed to them. From a mental point of view, that was a very meaningful game.
Six - Denver was the game of the week and featured Nantz/Simms. Look, for reasons unknown to any rational thought, juicystream dragged this thread out of mothballs to make a pretty silly, irrelevant point two months after the fact (ala the jerk store post). I would not argue Schaub is playing elite football right now. So... again, what is everyone's point?
The "playoff intensity" argument is a bad one because it is a purely subjective one from a fans perspective. Us trying to tell them what the feeling is and isn't makes no sense. And Schaub , i still don't understand why people say that like it's a common/normal belief. He's very good and can play great, and I'm more than fine with that.
YES, I agree Schaub did not shrink against Denver and Bmore. But the difference between you/moes and I is, I see week 3 and week 7 for what they were. Sure it's a big game but not bigger or the biggest when the lights are at their brightest. Do I have to remind both of you that there was a team that lost in both week 2 and 3 one at home to a team that is ****e now??? Guess who?, that's right the Patriots. Wow week 2 and 3 are HUGE!!! Bottom line, as the lights get brighter Schaub gets darker. When it comes to football, nothing brighter than the lights at THE SUPERBOWL!!!
can you list the teams those other quarterbacks went up against in those "spotlight" games? so you mean to tell me schaub can put a 110 rating on the broncos D, which is at the same level now, only because it was at 3pm and not 7 :30?pm. It just sounds silly. I know this sounds crazy, but I just think don capers and hoodie just out schemed us and rattled schaub by getting him uncomfortable. It happens and can continue to happen if adjustments are not made to counter those defences.
Nonsense. ipaman arbitrarily decides which games have playoff intensity and which don't. Those are the FACTS.
There is a big difference between the Broncos game and Sunday/Monday night games...Im not sure how else to describe it, other than, when its Sunday or Monday night, the pressure is higher and the spotlight is bigger. Everyone looks forward to those two games...everyone is focused on those two games. An afternoon game is nowhere near the same intensity, even if its the spotlight game. To answer your question, Brady went against the Ravens, Jets, and Texans. Brees went against the Falcons, Broncos, Bucs, and Chargers. Rodgers went against the Bears, Seahawks, Giants, and Texans.
Despite how dreadfully boring the game was, the entertainment provided from the aftermath of losing is nearly as enjoyable.
Not just me, but so did Andre Johnson and the national media including Steve Young. I'm in good company.
its a weak position....just like the rockets playing poorly on NBC back in the 90s....come on we better than that as fans....aren't we???
its called media hype...of course steve young (espn employee) is going to tell you that MNF (espn broadcast) is more important..... I have a lake side property in new mexico that i'd like to sell to you....interested?
Im not sure what you are exactly referring to...if you think players get up and hyped just as much for a day game as they do for Sunday and Monday night games, then we can agree to disagree. First thing players do when they get the schedule is check to see what games they are playing on Sunday night and Monday night...there is a reason for that, because they what to display their talents for the world to see. Prime time television. The stage is much bigger on Sunday/Monday night. It really isnt even a question. You can ask any player that has played in the NFL and I can guarantee you that they would agree with me.
Exactly...and that's exactly why the stage is so much bigger...because NBC, ESPN, NFL Network, etc...they all have made it such a big production that those games have become big. The media is a HUGE reason why the NFL is where it is today. You cant discount media hype like that.
Media hype??? Since when did AJ join the media??? AJ called it the biggest ever not me. So I guess you understand the feelings in the locker room better than AJ. RE: Young, Did you actually hear Young's argument??? He said the Texans want to become the Patriots and right now was the best time for the Texans to show who NOW carries the big stick in the AFC. I agreed with his point 100% and so did AJ. Only problem last night is we all found out that the Pats still carry that big stick as defending AFC champs. Last night, the PATS showed they still have the big stick and we shat our big boy pants.
So this problem with not getting up for big games is not all about Schaub then.....what you're saying is the Texans can't get up for big games....yeah schaub had a bad pick...but i can point out many more instances where others didn't do their jobs...Jean dropping a big pass on 3rd down in the first drive....walter not holding on to a forth down catch....line not protecting Schaub on important 3rd down plays....etc etc.... Your line of reasoning is weak. Schaub is an above average QB.
you know how much a loss this late in the season counts? as much as one in September. it's a good thing we only have one other one. now let's make adjustments for when we them in January.
My concerns are that against the Packers and Patriots, we went into those games wanting to make a huge statement. Both games were measuring sticks for us...and both games went about as bad as they could possibly go. That worries me. People point towards the fact that we beat the Broncos...that was a great win, but the Broncos are a much different team now than they were in week 3. Peyton Manning has improved a ton. My fiance's family is huge on the Broncos, so I have watched every one of their games this season. They are a different animal right now. People also point towards the Ravens game...the same Ravens team that squeaked by the Cowboys, Chiefs, and Browns right before they played us...and now have lost 2 in a row after miraculously coming back and beating the Chargers in OT. Fact of the matter is that they are not a playoff caliber team at the moment, even if their record indicates they are. Lucky for them, the Steelers are just as bad. Schaub needs to step it up...we have gone 2 games now where the offense has sucked (Titans and Pats).
