Denver wasn't? Baltimore? I think that's a little too convienent; that as soon as he turns in a subpar performance - THAT'S THE ONE THAT MATTERS!!!

He had a terrible game - GAME. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.

I'm suggesting that the league isn't clamoring over Alex Smith, who had become ruthlessly efficient. Even his own team benched him. Efficiency isn't enough.

Alex Smith played in the NFC Championship game last year and was 7-2-1 this year with his team averaging 29.9 points in those 7 wins before getting hurt. I wouldn't yet assume Harbaugh's decision to bench him was the right one.

My guess - if he's available this offseason, teams will be interested. He proved last year was not necessarily a fluke.

Someone remind Schaub that all the playoffs and the SB are in primetime. :(

Nobody was interested in him last year.

He's proven to be a game manager. Will some teams be interested? Sure, but he isn't elite by any means. 25+ teams wouldn't want a QB like Alex Smith.

I don't think they are all primetime games. We could get the 3 start.

Only playoff games are playoff games, but Matt still has to win one. This notion that he doesn't is ludicrous. PLAYOFF GAMES ARE THE ONES THAT MATTER MOST.The trend of Schaub being subpar in high profile games is startling but ALL will be forgiven with a deep playoff run.

so what happens if he lays an egg in the division round at home against, say the ravens.. do the detractors still make excuses about his beautiful numbers and keep bringing up 15-1 vs some shiit teams..

    Other than the 13-3 49ers.

And Alex Smith isn't as good as Matt Schaub. What's your point? You claim efficiency won't get it done and cite a starting QB from last year's NFC championship game, who's 20-5-1 in his last 26 starts, as proof. That's a total disconnect no matter how many "yeah, but"s you throw at it.

If Alex Smith's efficiency is enough to outduel Drew Brees and put his team an OT away from the Super Bowl - how does that discount the the efficiency of a better QB?

Fact of the matter is that the Texans are going nowhere if their defense doesnt play at an elite level.

The 49ers wanted a different QB, they got stuck with Alex Smith.

Based on the stats you were using for Schaub to backup his greatness, this season Alex Smith >>>> Schuab.

Drew Brees has no defense. Alex Smith has a great defense. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. Brad Johnson won a Super Bowl. It doesn't make them elite either.

You are the one that brought up yards don't matter, but they do when you are talking about the elite QBs in this league. Can you throw it 40 times a game and win consistently? Can you come up big in the biggest moments? So far Schaub hasn't proven either. You need to be able to do at least one.

Schaub is a very good QB. Matt Schaub is an older Matt Ryan. Doesn't make either in the conversation with the Mannings, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, or Roethlisberger.

    Maybe you have selective memory???

Denver - Week 3 is NOT like a playoff game!!! Schaub had a very good game but we got up by 20 and the offense went into a coma thanks to kubes. Schaub also had a bad interception.

Bmore - Again Week 7 is NOT like a playoff game!!! Let me remind you, the offense was not playing great to start. The defense gave us a huge lead early and it was game over.

I like Schaub, I want him to be successful. I want to believe that he is a big game QB. Last night he looked scared and his accuracy was really poor. From what he has shown when the lights are brightest doesn't look good. :(

So it's not about being convenient, it's about being a realist. I think deep down you are trying to convince yourself that with Schaub we'll be fine come playoff time.

Sounds like you're the one being selective, homie.

I posted this yesterday, Dilfer played against Kerry Collins.

Brad Johnson played against Rich Gannon.

    Two points,

    1. Someone had to win.

    2. ELITE DEFENSES!!!

We should all be rooting for Matt Ryan, Russell Wilson, Kaepernick, or Cutler to represent the NFC in the SB. Then we would have a chance.

NO WAY we beat Eli or Rodgers in a SB.

    And what a disaster! 11-win, 6-interception pace with a 104 QBR.

As mentioned, when he got hurt, Smith was on a 23/6, 11-win pace, which would have given him 40/11 and 24 wins the past two years. Again, how is he the poster child for efficiency not being enough?

So, IOW… you don’t need an elite QB to win a SB? What’s your point again?

Yeah, 71 days ago, when Schaub and the Texans were rolling every opponent on their schedule and more or less sitting out 4Qs.

He’s thrown 35+ passes in five games this year and is 5-0. He’s 2-0 when throwing 40+ passes, including the second-highest yardage total in NFL history.

When this thread was started – again, *October 1* - Schaub’s numbers were absolutely, positively elite. But even then, no one said he was better than those guys. Playing as well? Absolutely. But he’s had 3 bad games since I started this thread.

Look, I’ve argued all along that Schaub lacks a signature win. And, FYI – his 3 bad games: Green Bay, Chicago, New England. If you want to fight about him shrinking from the spotlight… I’ll excuse myself from the conversation because I wouldn’t necessarily disagree. (I would put Denver in the signature win category - but based on these past few weeks... I have doubts they could go to Denver and win right now.)

When we're hosting Denver in the postseason, I'll remind you how meaningless that game was.

    And here come the "but"s...............

When we're hosting Baltimore in the postseason, I'll remind you how meaningless that game was.
