I think it's safe to say most people aren't so enamored with next year's FA class. So what about the future? Houston cap room for 2014 if they keep the bare minimum is ~$18mil, enough for most max FAs. If they get rid of Lin or Asik for nothing, then they can up that amount to $20+mil, which can be important.

List of Restricted FAs that we likely can "overpay" like with Asik and Lin, meaning they're likely not automatically re-signed by their own teams for the max.

    Larry Sanders
    Paul George
    Ekpe Udoh
    Derrick Favors
    John Wall
    Loony Cousins
    Evan Turner
Greg Monroe(I think Detroit give him the max though)

Partial List of Unrestricted FAs that year which look at least semi-plausible. (P) Indicates Player Option which I think they'll use. (ETO) indicates Early Termination Option which seems to mean the same thing.

    Marcin Gortat
    Danny Granger
    Rodney Stuckey
    Pau Gasol
    Rudy Gay (P)
    Randolph (P)
Lebron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade(ETOs) - Gotta wish for some bad things happening in Miami though :)
    Kyle Lowry
    Luol Deng
    Andrew Bogut

Note: For those who care, we will need ~$20-21mil in capspace to give Bosh or James their max. Which likely means Lin or Asik traded away for extra capspace. Also retaining minimal players(Jones, DMo, next year's 1st, Parsons, Harden, Lin or Asik, and nothing else). Some other players may also receive that much money, but I doubt they'll get it, i.e. no one's going to give Rudy Gay $20mil/yr for 4 years.

Outside of Favors, Cousins, or Wall, the price tag will probably be a bit high for most these guys. Never know if it'll be a buyers' or sellers' market, but no way I give the max to 90% of those guys.

However, guys like Gasol might be interested in taking less due to age to join a contender if the Lakers decide to part ways. $8 mil a year for Gasol in 2 years, to pair up with Asik, Lin, Harden, & Parsons? Why not?

    Interesting article on Heat.

As a repeat taxpayer, the Heat will be facing the highest incremental tax rates in NBA history. If, for example, the luxury-tax threshold is established at $75 million -- a highly optimistic gain of roughly $5 million from this season -- the Heat could be faced with a tax bill approaching $48 million. In total, they would be paying $141.3 million for 12 players.

"They're going to have to break up their team,'' predicted a rival general manager who has done the math.

Unless the NBA's financial circumstances improve over the next couple of years, Arison will be faced with two unhappy choices: The Heat could run a big deficit in 2014-15 to pursue the championship, or he could break up their winning roster by way of trades, amnesty or by not re-signing James, Wade or Bosh, should they exercise their options to become free agents in 2014.

If league revenues were to jump higher than expected over the next two years, the tax threshold would be raised accordingly and Arison might be able to find a way to escape with his team intact. But the NBA's TV contracts with ESPN/ABC and TNT don't expire until 2016, and league executives don't foresee major financial gains rescuing the NBA before the repeater tax takes effect.

With the Grizz cap situation I think Rudy Gay could be had.

We still need a 4 and it's a good offseason for that

A lot of good names on that list. I like the idea of waiting until 2014 FA instead. If we can't get Paul or Howard this offseason, I see no point in trying for others.

We dont really need a star, just a B+ type player, Keep in mind that we still gotta pay Chandler if he keeps this up
