To think about it...
I actually dont think anyone takes this into consideration since as said there making millions. The only time players make a deal is when its there excuse not to play for that team. Think about all the traveling/practicing their doing, theres not much nightlife involved id say. Most go back to home in the summer anyways.

Of course 99% of Rockets fans don't want to live in Utah. It's not because Utah is a horrible place to live, because it's not. It's because 99% of Rockets fans hate the Jazz.

lol at people saying they hate SLC or Utah yet have never been. SLC itself it much different from the rest of the state. Actually the SLC area is pretty much like most big cities. There is lots to do, plenty of clubs, plenty of bars, plenty of stronger booze, plenty of girls. Once you get outside the SLC area is when you hit Whiteville and mormon central. Salt Lake City gets a bad rap, and on this site it's hated because of the basketball team, which is moronic.

Also, Utah is probably one of the top five states in the country in terms of natural scenery,

After reflecting on where I would absolutely hate to live...
Toronto as a whole would probably actually be a really fun city to live in. The only thing I have against it is I hate the cold. But, I'm sure I would warm up to the city for sure.

As for Indiana, I've always liked the Pacers because watching Reggie Miller play was amazing during my youth. That guy was one of the most clutch ballers, if not the most clutch basketball player I have ever seen. And their fans seem to always come out to support the team. So I wouldn't mind that at all.

Memphis seems bad, but I am fairly sure I could find ways to entertain myself there if need be.

OKC is bad in the sense that there is NOTHING to do, but at least the city itself is tolerable. It doesn't look live you're living in a toilet.

It really comes down to Detroit and Cleveland.

Cleveland and Detroit are honestly the two worst cities in America. They legit have nothing going for them. I can't name one positive thing about either city. I've been to all of the above places and these two are the absolute worst.

Since both cities are equally **** I'd probably base it off of what the rest of the state has to offer.

Ohio has some pretty cool amusement parks and stuff. Also, Ohio State co-eds tend to be hot lol. There's also some nice scenery because of the Great Lakes, etc.. Other than that, Ohio is just a complete waste of a state in my opinion.

From an outdoors perspective, Michigan provides more from what I have seen. Northern Michigan is really scenic and provides a lot to do if you're cool with spending time outside. I think solely because of that I give a slight edge to Michigan. Though again, both have little to offer compared to most other places.
tl;dr

Ohio is ****ing terrible
I would rather sit in a room full of LOF as they circle jerked to Linsanity highlights than ever step foot near Cleveland ever again.

Toronto isn't even the coldest NBA city. The coldest is definitely Minneapolis, followed probably by Chicago.

I have lived in Detroit and Milwaukee and it does suck when winter comes and it's bloody cold out. I would not want to be in a city where it snows. I want to be in a city where it's sunny all year round with beautiful weather.

I think the only people who are mad at LeBron for leaving Cleveland are people who live in Cleveland. He was the only thing that city had going for it.

I once went to the Sundance film festival with a friend and the state has some quirky law that said you couldn't enter a bar without being invited by someone inside. Also, It's come to my attention that Utah has the strictest liquor laws in the Union. So much so that opening a sports bar is incredibly difficult. Sorry bro, SLC maybe cool for hyper conservative families but its the worst for single millionaire 20 something professional athletes.

...and their women are hot in a creepy Aryan Children of the Corn way.

Rather than a top 5, I'd prefer to list my preference and give reasons why. Some cities are better to live in than visit as we can attest to living in Houston, which has a great quality of life but as far as attracting out of town visitors and being tourist friendly (which is different than saying we're rude to outsiders) Houston would be toward the bottom of the NBA.

I'm biased toward warm weather places, so here is my list of 30.

1-5
1/2. Los Angeles

Originally from there and lots to do. I'm not even talking about the fake, plastic Hollywood scene as I in my time living and visiting there never really encountered it much since we lived somewhat far from the nationally known areas.

3. Atlanta

As a black man, I'd love it since it's like Houston but is the black cultural Mecca. And no hurricanes!

4. Miami

Great weather. Live in the suburbs and it's a great quality of life. And again, I'm not even factoring in the overhyped, plastic scene this time in Miami Beach. Demerit for the possibility of hurricanes.

5. Houston

Home for the last 20 years and I love it here. The only thing that is unappealing is how spread out everything is, which isn't to say some of the cities above don't have that problem.

6-10
6. Dallas-Fort Worth

It's like Houston but with drier weather in the summer and colder in the winter. That would be a drawback but it's still workable.

7/8. New York City (including Brooklyn)

You could still live in Manhattan or New Jersey as a member of the Nets. Anyways, if it wasn't so cold, Manhattan would be my dream destination since I like to walk as opposed to drive or own a car period.

9. San Francisco Bay Area

Like I said about Manhattan, San Francisco would also be on my list due to how close everything is plus consistent weather all year round.

10. San Antonio

Not as big a city as you may think (large city but small metro and TV market) but suitable, warm and solid quality of life. I'd probably live in San Marcos to have access to Austin and San Antonio.
11-15

11. Orlando

Lots of non-adult attractions, warm and a solid quality of life. There are worse places.

12. Phoenix

Great weather but a major snore as far as cultural attractions and that downtown is strikingly small-looking.

13. Washington D.C.-Baltimore

Great area to live though the weather would not be friendly in the winter.

14. Charlotte

Not a cultural mecca but solid quality of life.

15. Memphis

Better to visit than live in but at least it's not super cold.

16-20
16. New Orleans

Same as Memphis but I take off some because of the threat of hurricanes and the vulnerability of the city.

17. Oklahoma City

Seems boring and spread out. Still maturing as a city but not too cold.

18. Denver

Though it has cold winters and a high altitude which would make it hard to breath sometimes, I could get away and enjoy the scenery every now and then.

19. Portland

I'm fond of the Pacific Northwest, though Seattle would be close to the top if it still was an active NBA city.

20. Sacramento

They don't call it Cow Town for no reason. It's not bad, I've been, but...meh.

21-25

21. Salt Lake City

If racism wasn't an issue in the world, I'd at least not feel uneasy about living here. But I wonder how blacks are treated there. In other words, how many racist idiots are there? Plus, let's not forget the cold winters.

22. Boston

Lots of cultural attractions and dense/walkable but WAY too cold for my taste.

23. Chicago

That lake effect snow and cold off Lake Michigan almost makes it worse than Boston, which is denser than the core of Chicago.

24. Philadelphia

A historical city but one that has seen better days. Super cold but that said, I've seen worse.

25. Toronto

The cultural capital of Canada. If it wasn't so cold as well as international and all the hassles that come with that, it'd be closer to the top.

26-30

26. Minnesota

Bitterly cold. Not my cup of tea, though the area seems nice enough.

27. Milwaukee

Well, at least it's close to Chicago.

28. Detroit

The suburbs are so nice, I can pretend that the actual City of Detroit doesn't exist.

29. Indianapolis

They do a good job hosting events but the city overall seems soulless to me.

30. Cleveland

0 appeal to me. It's better than it was 20-25 years ago in some sense but it's cold and mostly meh.

Utah
OKC
Memphis
Sacramento
Indy
Cleveland

I can find something to like about any other NBA city.

I should say that as a regular person I could live in SLC because of the absurd skiing but as an NBA player I doubt I'd be skiing too terribly much. Oh, and in that case I should probably add Houston to the list because I'd like an outside chance at winning at some point in my career.

Not surprised that many are saying they wouldn't want to live in Minneapolis. I will be honest that I didn't like it much when I first moved here but it has really started to grow on me. Yes it is cold and can be bitterly so and it also snows which is a pain in the ass, especially since we have no mountains for good skiing but it is a nice city with friendly people. In the spring, summer and fall it is really beautiful and most importantly as a medium sized metro area it is very easy to get around. Whenever I visit Houston i am always bothered by how long I have to drive to get to most places and the traffic. Also its got a lot of great beer, since I have been here now has a great Vietnamese and Mexican food scene. There are also a lot of beautiful friendly women here particularly if you like Scandinavian Tuetonic types.

Anyway the NBA city I would least like to play for is probably OKC. I haven't been there since I was a kid but I don't have fond memories of it and haven't heard anything really good about it. Second would probably be Detroit. Third Cleveland. Fourth would be NYC. While I don't mind visiting NYC I never liked spending a lot of time there. I just start to feel ruder and clausterphobic being there. Plus I don't like any of the sports teams that play there.

I don't have a problem with any of the cities. I'd choose by what I thought of the organization. I'd probably most want to avoid the Clippers and the Bobcats and the Wizards, because they don't know what they're doing.
