If records are constantly being broken I say the greatest is the best right now.

    Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps

Bo Jackson, definitely the best athlete I've ever seen and I don't think it's really close. I remember one time he threw out Harold Reynolds at home plate from the warning track. When you saw Bo run, it was like he almost ran out of his shoes he was running so fast. The day Bo got hurt was one of the saddest days in sports history. You just knew it was never going to be the same, a horrible horrible day.

John Elway over Allen Iverson? I never really thought of Elway as an althetic guy, but I was pretty young when they won.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and even Cristiano Ronaldo

Two guys who's physical abilities are just freakish. The control they have over their bodies is crazy.

I agree Lebron shouldn't be on this list. Sure he is a great basketball player but we don't really know how he would do in other sports. I also don't think Michael Jordan belongs there as while he might be the greatest basketball player he was a very mediocre minor league baseball player. If we are going to talk about fame and impact on society Michael Jordan should be there but then that list should have Muhamed Ali at the top.

In my mind any list of greatest pure athlete should be very heavily weighted to decathletes. Success in that requires exceptional ability in the major facets of athletic ability, strength, speed, stamina and agility.
