Read this on the internet but dont know how accurate it is. "The coaching staff of the Rockets know that they would be gone in favor of Chris Finch next season. This is pretty well known. Therefore, they are more interested in padding wins to secure their next job than player development. That's why Aldrich, Douglas, Delfino all got bunch of PT when none of them are in Rocket's long term plans. McHale/Sampson obviously thought they can provide a better chance of winning. However, McHale sucks at judging talent, as evident from his GMing days."
We won't see changes until the All Star Break. Part of me thinks there will be a change then, or at least I hope so.
a lot of guys here complains about our defense. I cannot disagree, it's awful. But one of the reasons to improve it is simple - rotation!!! all good defensive teams rotate their players, giving them reasonable time to rest. and this season rockets are giving time to only 7-8 players every game. harden sucks at defense too, but how can he not as he plays 40 minutes every game and he's #1 guy in offense.
It's so ironic that clutchfans would complain about coaches doing what the fans want. The Rockets played good defense early with McHale. Everyone wanted him gone because of our lack of offense. Then Sampson came in to rev up the offense, and now people moan about defense. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Oh, and expecting the Rockets to be great at both offense and defense is pointless, because we don't have that talent. Dont believe me? Ask Phil Jackson how his Lakers looked when he had Kwame Brown at center rather than Gasoline.
I think one could argue that a lot of times, defense is more based on effort and less talent than on the offensive side of the ball. Using Kwame Brown as an example does not prove anything.
The bottomline is that it's all about keeping their jobs. Get the W at all costs. Screw the rebuilding/developing phase...let's just skip to a championship run or a deep playoff run so we can keep our jobs. Pure pathetic coaching.
LMAO, playing Aldrich is a win now move? Like Lin he's a third year player but he's logged even less minutes in all those years than Morris.
Yeah in their brilliant minds I guess it was because of Chris Kaman torching aski (however you spell it)
Watching McHale play with the Celtics during those multiple winning seasons and championships, was nothing short of magical. The guy is a winner and is used to being part of that kind of environment. Winning is in his DNA. Regardless of what he was able to accomplish in the Timberwolves FO, he is still developing as a head coach. Has he even had a full season as head coach? Given that he has an incredibly young roster to work with, I think this season's record so far is pretty darn good. This team has an offense which can be explosive, and any 15 point deficit can be wiped out easily with a quick run. As a fan, that's exciting to know. While I question some of the coaching decisions during game time, it is reassuring to know that coach McHale is tinkering with line-ups to get a look-see at what works and what doesn't. I'd love to be a fly on the wall during the coaching staff strategy sessions. The players all seem to support the coach, and that tells me something about his leadership. It's way too early in the season to start blaming players, coaches, management, or ownership for anything. The Rockets are so much fun to watch this year, and I just have remember to keep things in perspective. We have so much raw talent, youthful energy, and promise. And we're winning games, as well as contesting some close ones. How awesome is that? Go coach McHale! Go Rockets!!
I think McHale would actually be a good assistant coach. He can work on the bigs and defense, but have someone else coach the team.
Is it that hard to not make insane sub decisions, not overuse Harden because of a) our offensive predicatability b) Harden's health for the entire season, and set plays for other players besides Harden?
What is mind-boggling is why we let go of Adelman to have a more defensive minded coach when in fact we are way worse than under Rick. Sampson is in charge of defense so I don't know whose to blame here. He's better than the other two final candidates. There is and was nobody better out there when they let go Adelman I guess..
1. Post a link. 2. Credible sources don't use verbiage like "sucks." This reeks of a blog or message board post.
Again, you didn't read this on the "internet." This is from CF game thread last night! It was just rampant speculation by a 2012er.
That's funny, because I was just reading the TOR forum and they were celebrating the fact that at least they didn't have Kevin McHale. Yeah, I have watched every single TOR game this year except the few where Lowry sat out, and Casey's rotation has been nothing short of baffling, but McHale's rotation last night blew everything Casey has done this season out of the water. Tney "switch on perimeter and just leave them open" Uglas 35 min? Carlos Delfino assigned to guard the 4? Are you ****ing kidding me?
