Not at all. Asik is not looking to shoot and he has hands of stone. He is playing like a slow-footed center who doesn't know how to set a good pick.
Okay. I take my statement back. I broke down the Rockets between fast break and half court. The Rockets are #20 in the NBA in half court defensive efficiency. And while Asik does have an on-court +7.4 defensive rating, meaning he's much better than Aldrich or Greg Smith on defense, that's still overall pretty poor. We may be roughly average on defense with him.
Asik was helped by Thib's system. The Bulls are still elite defensively even without Asik, and the fact that the team is pretty much last in defense doesn't really warrant Asik being seen as a defensive anchor. He is great at rebounding though and his offensive game has been good.
Actually, the Bulls were MUCH BETTER with Asik instead of Noah last year. With Asik last year, they were giving up about 84 points/48 minutes. 4 points less than their 88 points/game given up.
Didn't he have the flu last night? He is a shotblocker with good timing for help defense. He can be pushed around though by heavier opponents. Our perimeter guys also routinely lose their men. We can't keep relying on Asik; our team defense has to improve. In the recent games we won, we were able to put together 6 min or so of solid defense. But we don't have the discipline to sustain it for long periods of time. And when it didn't work vs. SA, what's the point of exerting more effort?
He is a young less athletic and offensively challenged Center playing against the best and most athletic one in the NBA. Asik's defense isn't overrated but when he is the only one playing it on the team, that is a problem. He can handle one on one match ups against most big men but guys like Howard require he gets help because he literally can't contain them by himself and Patterson defensively has taken a massive nose dive this season when he isn't the only big on the court leading other bigs that have range games getting the best of this team because none of our big men can or are willing to deter them.
None of that matters. He needs to develop a mean streak and use his body to his advantage . He gets, his shot blocked way to much to be "athletic ". He needs to start playing like a larger Charles Barkley or shaq and get physical in the paint.
Asik is not able to do what he is supposed to bc he lacks a true 4 next to him...Often times on offensive rebounds...he is the only one remotely close to the ball...
Holy crap I completely disagree. This guy is a stud. He got whooped last night just like every other player on the team but he is by no means overrated. Knee-jerk thread.
In a high post spread offense PPat is exactly where he should be. On the defensive end the Rockets are obviously not making the correct switches or rotations. The Rockets players are being picked when they should have their teammates warning them. Team chemistry takes years to develop. Parsons is an obvious bright spot, but he had 4 years of college ball to hone his craft.
His PnR defense needs some work. But one could say that's PPatt's fault for not helping quickly enough.
This is such a tired and ignorant argument. There is no set time period when only starters can play and when only bench players can play. There is tremendous overlap of bench players playing against starters.
Two words: bad rotation. Young teams are usually not very good at it. Defensive rotation needs to be drilled into their bones, becoming second nature. That's what JVG-Thib do best.
