Did your friend say the same thing when JJ Watt got a lot of press for what he did with the Berry kids?

I have no idea. I doubt he's even aware of it. Probably because it didn't get as much publicity as Andre's toy donation got. Although I'm sure the same perspective could be applied to any kind of charitable donation, except for donations of time, immaterial things, etc. It's always good to keep these things in perspective when setting examples.

Edit: When my friend brought that up, it made me think to myself, "You mean if I donated a few hundred bucks I'd be emulating/on par with Andre?" Which makes me feel like a boss. Hell, if you want to know the honest truth, it inspired me to donate today to Swoly's cousin and her cancer fund.

I do find it annoying when people use charity for publicity and fake altruism just for rep building. ( Like that "We Are The World 2" for Haiti thing. The suspicious "career building" element in the participants)

Though still, mostly the actual RECIPIENTS don't give TOO much a sh** what the donators purpose is. If its a shallow Andre Johnson drop in his bucket donation that he only did to impress the chicks around him and he later goes and drops that same amount in the strip clubs with James Harden, the recipients will take it all the same.

I agree with DonnyMost, why not say out loud wanting this to be THE NORM across the board for all people. To me its still why its okay for deeds to be in the paper even its for superficial face time. Cuz how are you gonna get inspired by what you don't even know about, and the recipients themselves arent complaining anyway.

if you look at athlete/celebrity charities, this is really kind of the standard for all of them. some of them set up charities and they will be in the news for raising for example $1MM but the guy/girl will have just signed a $20MM for some movie or sport or something.

i do think part of the ideal is getting others in involved in your charity, rather than just giving money away. the charity and event brings awareness to the cause.

Dude, that's a scam. That goes straight to Swoly's pocket. He doesn't even have a cousin.

Someone else speculated that 19k to AJ was like $200 to most of us & then someone asks "why not more?". That kinda hit home, because $2oo is what we donated to our favorite charity. OK! We'll donate some more.

    Class act, AJ!

    Gotta bump this too.

I'm sure everyone complaining can find their own names here praising Dre.

You can put it together once you read thru the Johnson denied contract extension thread.

You're a smart guy, I know you can do it.

I think he's trying to say that once you formulate an opinion on someone, you are not allowed to change it for any reason ever.

Basically your opinion on the dude's opinion on what the team outlook will be this year doesn't mean you have to attack his character or loyalty.

He has been a consummate professional since the day he was drafted and last for 10 plus years of inept QB play plus horrible coaching to get here. It's the tail end of his career and he has done everything to more than appease the organization plus is a massive assistant in helping the community.

You get tired of losing, he can voice his opinion on that. I can't imagine what you guys would have said about the guy if he actually requested a trade not just voice his perosnal opinion.

    The two situations are irrelevant.

Nobody is saying Dre is a bad human being.

His timing and the way he brought it to everyone's attention was poorly done.
