Prediction: The Rockets will be a dark horse contender next season

By that I'm thinking #4th to 6th seed in the west. A team with good chance to make it to the 2nd round, if not further. My prediction is based on two assumptions. One, that we remain relatively healthy, especially to Harden. No one with season-ending surgery. The other assumption is that we see some development among our youngsters. Don't know who. As long as one or two do so between now and next season.

I feel the west is just not as top-heavy as it used to be. Thunder is elite and probably will be the bane for us as the Supersonics for the 90s Rockets. But other than them, any other team you say we have no chance? Memphis to me seems like the 2nd best team in the west. They're the new Pistons, tough and defensive minded. But not a team you would just give up against. Like you would the OKC/Spurs/Lakers of past years. Lakers and Spurs are both getting old, and even older next year. Clippers are the Clippers. Even with CP3 and Griffin, they don't give off the feeling of dominance. Denver has talent but the pieces don't seem to fit well. And a pieced together Mavs team with an old Dirk doesn't scare me.

If things go well for us, plus a major offseason addition in the form of free agent or trade, I would not truly fear any team in the playoffs besides the Thunder. And this rebuilding may be shorter than previously imagined.

I had the same feeling also... and I also agree that the only thing that will prevent this is the health of everyone... if all the starters remain healthy for the rest of the season... I am quite sure next season the rockets will be contenders... especially if morey can add one more star in the team...

Maybe you should watch the games closer, Lin has a very good upside. As long as he doesn't get injured I think you will see his game continue to improve. Last weak after one of his better games (I think it was Toronto if I remember right), they asked him why his shot came around and if he had been working on it a lot because they had 3 days off before that game. His response was that he didn't work on it at all because he was still healing up from injury's.
Give the guy some time to get better, we gave Kyle Lowry some time and it was worth it I think it will be the same for Lin.

Why would you taint this thread with LOF vs LOH bait? You're one of the reasons every thread has turned into some Lin debate.

While I agree both the lakers and spurs are getting old, I wouldn't discount the lakers next season. That's a star-studded team that has been through a lot this season, I expect them next season to be firing on all cylinders ala Miami Heat 2012.

I think it all depends on how our players develop this year and the dynamic this young group establishes when they've become comfortable together as a team (what I mean is without issues like the absence of McHale, lack of knowledge concerning each others game and lack of preparation for offensive and defensive sets and plays).

Miami had 3 superstars in their prime. All capable of playing in top form for 40mpg. I think the Lakers are built for this year. Even their role players are old. Even if they sort things out, I don't trust their health for a whole season.

I like your mindset, but you predicted something and neglected the future progress of other franchises in similar situations. In particular, the Timberwolves and Jazz. What's stopping them from peaking around our time?

I agree... But also because I believe, that this team will have at least one more major piece next season. Morey will either trade or use his capspace next off season to get the closest thing to a star possible.

And with Lin, Harden, Parsons, Patterson, Asik, and all the rooks getting comfortable with each other and improving, that team with another major piece should be able to make some noise...

We have to many wildcards and unknowns as far as players potentials. No one knows how T-Jones and D-Mo will pan out. Pat is still inconstant. Not even gonna mention Lin.

The only guys we can be sure of to be solid are Harden, Asik and Parsons.

That horse is the same color as wesley snipes. Darkhorse contender imo is not 4 or 6th seed, its more like a team who is a fringe playoff team jumping to top 2 or 3. Memphis is a contender to come out the west this year.OK City 2 yrs ago when they made the big jump. JMO

I hope you're right. If we pick up a really good piece I think we have a good chance. Lin will come around and play to his potential. My main concern is the coaching, I would love to have a veteran coach leading the team.
