Congrats. Did you follow up and do you think this came from that or was it already in motion?

I think it was in motion but I also think that my follow-up kicked it into gear for this week.

In the same boat... sort of.

So after passing the initial phone screening with the recruiting agency, I was given an over the phone technical interview with the hiring company. I thought it went well but as days went on, I came to the conclusion that I probably didn't get it. A week or so passes, I get a call. They want me to come in for a face to face interview. Fantastic.

I go in for the interview (Monday) and it went great. Better than I had expected. Nothing but solid feedback. I felt really confident afterwards.

So, the recruiter that's handling the position calls me the following day (Tuesday). He reiterates exactly what I thought. He spoke with the hiring company and stated they had nothing but positive things to say about me. "You should have an answer by the end of the week", he says.

Friday arrives. I call the recruiter to get an update. He states he spoke with the hiring company and that at the moment, it's between some other guy and me. "They're learning towards you but want the weekend to think it over", he says. Alright.

The following Monday arrives. I call the recruiter and he says he hasn't heard back from the hiring company but that I'm definitely still in the running. He'd have an answer by mid-week (at the earliest) or Friday (at the latest).

Tomorrow is that Friday. If I don't get a straight answer, should I just forget it and move on? Initially I was just anxious but as the days go by, I'm getting more and more frustrated. I'm just ready for them to tell that I didn't get it so I can move on.

    RECAP

11/9 - Phone screening with recruiter
11/12 - Technical interview with hiring company
11/26 - Face to face interview with hiring company

As you can see, this entire process is going on a month.

Side note - I just want to give a shout out to dandorotik for building me a baller ass resume.

Be patient. HR is the worst organization at every corporation and they take forever to make decisions. I don't know if I know anyone that has ever had their decision by the day they were told they would.

Thanking them after an interview wouldn't hurt.

There's many things that can hold up an offer (funding, interoffice funny business, competition, project deadlines). Try to get your mind off of it as there's not much anything in your control beyond this point.

Me, I would think about salary if you haven't already. If you told them how much you make, strike one, but always negotiate and know what your sticking points are even if you really really really want to work there. Show them that you're worth it.

Best line I said (relating to salary) was something like, "I'm familiar with the nature of the _______ industry, so feel free to be open with me about the compensation for this position." I think it helps to "cut the crap" and save some time.

Keep in mind, this was in response to a question regarding what my salary expectations are. I really don't think that strategy can backfire, as it's essentially alleviating the awkwardness between you and your prospective employer. However, for upper-level positions (negotiable salary) this may not work, as it would be losing leverage on the part of the employer.

Also, I do wonder how many companies care/expect a courtesy follow-up e-mail. I typically only send them when I'm interested in the position, otherwise I'll risk the company calling me back -- as they always promise they will, lol.

6 interviews? Eek! I'll say this much, the days following the interview sure do like to drag. But, like you said, worth it. Feels good.

    Ha!

But, just follow up again with the recruiter. As much as needed. It's a 3rd party recruiter so you couldn't do anything to hurt your standing with the company. Obviousely you wouldn't want to pe a pest, but regular follow up seems OK in your instance.

And don't stop your job search until you actually start a new position.
