Here are some of her more recent hits. Which one has yelling? Still curious as to why you say that. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/bnVUHWCynig" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2EwViQxSJJQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/AWpsOqh8q0M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/y4gimHC7fKs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I can name a dozen Whitney Houston songs, and maybe one or two Beyonce songs (which aren't even comparable in quality).
Always enjoyed this song. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4S37SGxZSMc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
She actually has a pretty solid voice, the two or three that compare are either dead or banging Nick Cannon. It's also a little hard to market some of the technically talented singers, Jessica Simpson in particular jumped around a couple of genres and was completely unrelatable to younger people; so she had to market her looks and lucked into the ditzy thing from her reality show. I think with En Vogue and SWV never crossing over, and TLC always in between genres there was a mini-vacuum for female R&B groups and Destiny's Child filled it right when musical tastes were diversifying enough for them to be a pop hit. They had two early tunes and a follow-up: Say My Name, Pay My Bills and Independent Women, all pretty explosive overnight hits that were well-written commercially and utilized some of the up-tempo beats that Timbaland was putting into rap a couple of years earlier. Beyonce was the lead vocal on those; and if you look at everyone else's post-DC career she apparently had the most heat. She probably lucked out on Bootylicious in that she was well backed enough by then to pay for that Stevie Nicks sample (and cameo).
Not sure anyone is comparing Beyonce to Whitney. That'd be silly. Still, because you can only name one or two of her songs doesn't diminish her ability to sing, make popular music, or her hotness.
Way to go out on limb there. This is like calling Coldplay hacks because they don't compare to the Beatles. I wish more people were able to differentiate between talent and their own personal taste.
I can agree that she can sing. But I think we can agree that some of the stuff she passes as songs is just her screaming. Similarly she can sure as hell dance, but she also throws in lots of weird spastic looking stuff.
i'm in the not talented category. a friend of mine and I were at a party at the ruggles (not there anymore) at minutemaid about eleven years ago. beyonce was in a booth. my friend is like i'm going over there and talk to her. i was like okay. he tried and failed but i give him an e for effort.
i think you're exactly right. en vogue, tlc, etc were on their way out, and destiny's child filled a void. i really can't even think of a female group around that time, i guess there are not really anymore right now.
There's a big difference between music that sucks and music that isn't your taste. I think that's the point some of us are trying to make.
That song is so annoying I have to walk out of a store everytime it plays. Its not as bad as Beiber music, but unbearable nonetheless. BUT BEYONCE HAD ONE OF THE BEST VIDS OF ALL TIME!! ALL TIME!
Dislike most of her music, but still think she's extremely talented as a dancer, entertainer and singer. She is also extremely hard-working. I have no idea why I would watch this documentary though anymore than I would watch one about the guy who makes great sandwiches in the restaurant down the street.
