My mom told me eye-glasses have the service life of watches. My longest tenured glasses are my current two pairs, which were purchased at the same time about 3 years ago. All my prior glasses broke in about the same time from wear and tear or downright negligence.

How long have your glasses lasted?

I have a pair that are still in tact from 7 years ago. of course if we're talking prescription, make sure your eyes havent changed. that may be a stupid statement since im young and I have no idea if your eyes stop changing...

Usually your eyes change a lot until you become an adult. That's why the lasik is not recommended during your developmental years. For me, I replace my glasses when I break them or I feel like wearing a different style. I replace my lenses when the optometrist gives me a new prescription.

Depends on the person. While you can see fine out of an old pair, I would say your vision Rx changes on a yearly basis.

There is a big difference between ok vision and perfect vision. Some people can correct down to 20/10 vision, but ideally you'd like 20/20 vision. Most people won't notice if they are seeing 20/30 or worse. Also, if you have a lot of stress, your vision could see some significant changes in a short period of time.

I would say most people see big vision changes when they are very young (ages 10 through 21) and it will stabilize a little until their lower 40s when presbyopia kicks in and you need bifocals.

Just because you see fine out of your glasses doesn't mean you shouldn't go into a doctor for a yearly check up. Not only will he give you a new Rx for glasses, but he will also check on the health of your eyes. There are a lot of things an eye doc can pick up on before there are any physical or visual symptoms.

Your prescription only lasts a year anyways and then you are required to get another exam for prescription. If you don't have to wear the glasses, don't. Wear the pinhole readers instead.

I'm going on 3-4 years now but I rarely use them. I wear contacts 99% of the time.

I've known people who this had happened to. I wish it would have happened to me, but my vision just stayed the same or got worse during my developmental years.

Tend to fall asleep with them on, so getting new pairs each year. Can't handle contacts at all :( At the same time, my vision is getting worse each time...

When I was a teenager, I was breaking my glasses about once a year. Now that I'm old, they'll last me about 4 years.

The pinhole glasses are funny. Reminds me of when I was a kid in school when I would forget my glasses at home, and I'd try to read the board by making a little hole between my thumb and hand to peer through, or else squeeze my eyes real tight and then read what I could for the half-second of clarity before my eyes refocused to my out-of-focus norm.

This is just a wild guess, but if you type into google:

    how do pinhole glasses work

You might find your answer. I know that sounds crazy, but sometimes it works.

Oh, and I do know one thing,,,pinhole glasses don't work at night, when it is pitch dark. They require sunlight or artificial light sources to work.
