Sure... but when the QB has time to throw, they usually don't expect anybody to read their angle and knock the pass down. Every deflected pass has the chance to be intercepted. Not every sack results in a fumble. They can elude pressure... but when they're constantly adjusting how they're throwing the ball over the line (even when they have time), it affects things.
Not every deflected pass ends in an interception. Some even result in a reception. Every sack will result in a negative play barring a fumble recovery by the offense that is advance, which is rare.
You can turn your statement around to say: Every sack has the chance to result in a fumble. Not every deflected pass results in an interception.
So of his total passes defensed, how many have been intercepted? Better yet, what was the average field position for the Texans offense on those intercepted deflections? Also, how many tackles for losses have resulted in a field position outcome that has strategically altered the opposing team's ability to score on say a third down in field goal range? Watt had two of those in the Detroit game I recall where his tackles for losses forced a punt on 4th down instead of a field goal or where he set up a big third and long. If a writer wants to really have a debate about JJ Watt's impact on the game, these two questions if explored, would show the true impact Watt is having. He is a clear cut DPOY.
this guy is such a ridiculous athlete. mario had the measurables but he was such a stiff. i don't blame it on motor, i blame it things like lateral movement, timing, hands, watts is the complete package. i was always a big bruce smith fan. i believe he was a three four end also and that's when i first started hearing how hard it is for a three four end to get sacks. watt is is just ridiculous. he is so bulky yet well well porportioned. i mean not to sound gay, but the dude just has a perfect build for a defensive linemen. he is big up top but he still has stout tree trunk type legs. i bet he could play power foward on a d-1 level and maybe even pros, with his vertical and his timing. very few defensive players do people follow during a game. he is definitely a player you watch for play in and play out.
Apparently he rubbed off well on Goldberg because he ranked him #1 in his non QB MVP list, and said he's the best defender out right now. Greeny then said Watt would have a SB Ring if Schaub didn't get injured last year.

If he ends up trailing Smith by only a sack or two at the end of the season, he should be a clear favorite for the DPOY. In my opinion Balls batted for INT > Forced Fumbles. Reasoning behind that is that an INT is easier to return for more yardage or a TD than a Forced fumble.
I love going back and reading the 2011 draft thread....the reactions are priceless. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=199764&page=31 some of the gems: SamFisher: Nice and boring. Got to love the Texans. CometsWin: Oh my god they're going to do it. emjohn: WATT?!?!??! OMFG I Hate This Team. coachbadlee: JJ Watt???!!! Thats definitely a Houston move!! It never fails!!!! and credit to DonnyMost for defending the pick
Nobody really expected this out of JJ Watt. Just go around looking at his scouting reports out of college. A lot of them stated that he would never be an elite pass rusher. My initial thought on the pick was at best he could be a Ray Childress type. He's blown past that and his ceiling is actually Reggie White, Bruce Smith, or maybe even the greatest ever. They did an interesting stat breakdown on 610 this morning stating he has the potential to break the all time sack record this season, already broke the all time passes defensed by a DL, and has the most tackles for loss in the last 5 seasons. Epic year for Watt. Passes Defensed stats - It's nobody but CB's and safeties. http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/player-stat/defense-pass-defenses Tackles for Loss - Already most since this site has been keeping this stat. Von Miller is doing awesome as well http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/player-stat/defense-tackles-for-loss Tackles - Only DL on the list. http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/player-stat/defense-total-tackles
My favorites: And he ends up being the reason to want season tickets to the Texans and easily MVP of the team. From the 2nd half of his rookie season, he has been the best defensive player in football, and arguably the best overall.
Im just happy my name hasnt shown up on these past quotes. I dont remember exactly what I said...I think I was confused because I was under the impression that Mario would play DE in the 3-4...it was before Wade converted him to an OLB. I dont think I had a problem with Watt...just had a problem, I think, with the fact that Watt would be playing back up to Smith and Mario.

From Texans PR: Watt's 16.5 sacks 3rd most thru 12 games since becoming official stat in 1982. Yeah that was my gripe too. I didn't actually criticize them since I've learned to trust the people making millions but in my head I was like . I think everyone up there was so mad because of the same reason. We didn't find out Mario was going to be an OLB until later.
Reggie White had 21 sacks in 12 games in 87. I guess they are only counting the first 12 of the season.
