Please don't take this the wrong way...I know your name and history here. Why don't you simply break down and get Comcast? Is that not an option for you? It seems like you are caught between 2 bad options but to me, missing Rockets games for you seems to be worse. JMHO. Hoping for a resolution for you guys soon.
Who is more stubborn, Comcast and the providers that refuse to come to an agreement, or the people in this thread that have the option to switch to Comcast and choose not to?
Yes, I am very stubborn about where I choose to spend my $$. The Rocket's aren't good enough to make me want to switch from a provider I love to one I hate. The only difference is my stubborness isn't costing me $$, and there is plenty of basketball to watch with my current provider (at least 4 games a week), and arguably better teams on a nightly basis at that.
It's not your fault that you don't know/care since you are getting it. Good for you! what about the folks that cant get comcast in their area due to a monopoly with suddenlink? Where I live there are 4 choices: Directv,dish,suddenlink, or streaming. Comcast is not even an option. I lived in san diego and could get games there no problem. Now I am on the north side of houston and cant. This is ridiculous.
Here's the deal. Some of us have had bad dealings with Comass & won't go back PERIOD!!!!! We all have our "line in the sand" situations & Comass is one of mine. Now, in all fairness, I have to say this. I live in the hill country & Comass isn't available. Some of you (as does my brother) have Comass & like it. That's fine. I don't begrudge you for that. You just haven't had bad experiences with them. The bottom line is; if I still lived in Houston, switching wouldn't be an option. I respect your opinion & hope you respect mine.
That's why I said the people that have an option of choosing Comcast. I really feel for the people that have no option at all for seeing the games. Those people are really stuck and it's a terrible situation. However, a lot of people in this thread are choosing to have their bills reduced by their current provider and staying with that provider instead of making the switch to Comcast. They have the option to go with a provider that offers the Rockets games, but they are choosing not to change providers. This situation reminds me a little bit of when the Rockets games started being shown on cable on the Home Sports Entertainment channel. At that time not everyone had cable TV, and if you wanted to watch the Rockets, you had to pay extra. People had the choice then to get cable and HSE or not watch the Rockets. Same thing now, people can remain with a provider that doesn't offer Rocket games, or they can choose the provider that does offer the games. As I stated, the people that do not have an option to choose Comcast are screwed and I really feel for those people.
elddepkcaB, elddepkcaB, elddepkcaB... I love my Rox, but not even enough to go to a cable provider I left for reasons posted already. There IS a reason they're #4 in the TOP 10 MOST HATED COMPANIES IN 'MURICA!
I'll bite here. I live in an apt. The apartment signs agreements with a landline cable provider. I have Directv to go around that. Thus, if my apt does not have an agreement with comcast then I can't sign up even if I wanted to. Don't know how many others are in this situation but it's mine. No doubt Comcast is just waiting this out to pick up sizable commercial accounts like apt complexes & bars. They want the entire package and they're just leveraging the Rocket's fan base to do that.
Two years ago Comcast screwed me beyond belief. They came to my house and disconnected my service. I never missed a payment. Was a customer with them for three years. Moved twice and transferred my service each time. Didn't cancel and restart. Transferred. After three years of continued business they thanked me with a disconnection and a bill for over $600.Yeah, seriously. Why? Because I moved to a house where a past resident shared the same last name as me. A VERY common last name. That past resident apparently racked up over $600 in unpaid Comcast bills. How that’s even possible without being disconnected? I have no idea. But what I do know is that they disconnected MY service and tried to bill me to have it reconnected. Even though my service was TRANSFERRED FROM A DIFFERENT ADRRESS AND CITY. Several phone calls and letters. Didn’t help. Faxed copies of my current and past leases. Didn’t help. An active account for the past three years. Didn’t help. Pleas for logic and common sense. Didn’t help. They felt it was best to disconnect a paying customer of three years – A customer who had a mf paper trail of on time payments and no signs of delinquency. So that’s why I won’t… Scratch that – Can’t switch to Comcast. Not for the Rockets and not even for all the mf bandwidth in TX. Fck them. And fck anybody that has a problem with it.
To me it would be like being denting your car. Then you take your car to a dealership to fix a minor dent. They tell you its going to be a million dollars to fix and your insurance compny says that's outrageous and won't pay. So instead you buy a new car from them. Rewarding them for screwing you over.
I won't answer for Batman, but for myself, I refuse to be strong armed into choosing a provider simply because they refuse to license the game to other providers. Keep in mind that this is coming from a person who is actually planning to switch internet providers, which would make a switch to a television provider much easier (but not necessary since my internet is not currently bundled with my television). In addition, I was a Red Rowdy for the first two years the group existed, so you won't find many bigger Rockets fans than me. Personally, I place half the blame on Comcast and the other half on the Rockets/Astros. If Les Alexander and/or the new Astros owner wanted a deal made, it would have been done by now. As it is, Les Alexander has seen to it that I will not be consuming his product at any time in the foreseeable future. I think it is execrable that they have shut out 60% of the television viewers in Houston as a ploy to increase Comcast subscribers.
There is a difference between "having the option" and feeling like you are being forced to make a choice. I am actually in the market for a new internet service and would be tempted to switch to Comcast because I have heard anecdotal evidence of their internet service's superiority to Uverse. However, I will not be strong armed into choosing a provider because they refuse to bargain in good faith with other providers. As such, it is highly likely that I will have Uverse for my internet while staying with Dish for television.
That's essentially my answer, though I'd put it a bit differently. I don't respond well to extortion. I'm the guy they thought would do as suggested and just change providers. They were counting on people like me to do that. Screw them. I'm not rewarding them with my money for the favor of having been locked out.
