This is kind of how I see him. He's not the kind of player who you run the offense through. He has the potential to be a super-roleplayer, who does a little bit of everything well, with high effort and high IQ. Once again, I am forced to compare him to Luol Deng. Their stats are remarkably similar and so are their scouting reports. Except Parsons seems to be developing into a better 3P shooter--we'll have to see if that keeps up, though. He was streaky in college and given that he doesn't have ideal shooting form, I would not be surprised to see him wind up more around 35% from three.
Aaron Brooks won MIP as a third year NBA player. Kevin Love won MIP as a third year player. Monta Ellis won as a second year player. Gilbert Anreas won as a second year player. The league seems to like to give it to second to third year players. Right about in that range.
No chance of that. Parsons definitely has the drive to perform and win, and is the prototypical team player.
So would you guys say Parsons and Kawhi Leonard are on about the same level in terms of a jack of all trades type of player at this moment?
They are similar players statistically, even down to their .605 shared TS%, but don't mistake Leonard's numbers for versatility. Watching Spurs games proves out that Leonard is little more than a spot-up shooter, a kick-out target for Tim Duncan, who will get an occasional long rebound. Meanwhile, Parsons is a superior defender and a much better passer (3.3 APG per 36, vs. 1.7 APG per 36 for Leonard). Parsons has the skills to initiate the offense himself, taking his man off the dribble or distributing the ball as the ballhandler in the pick N roll. Meanwhile, Leonard has bad handles and may never initiate the offense...at any point in his career. He just isn't that player. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGJW9w6_A_I Scrub tier handles and passing, to be honest. I was being a little kind to Leonard.
Thanks, I never really looked that far into Leonard's play so this really helped me see the difference!
Parsons is a core player of this team. If Rockets don't keep him, every other team (and fans) would love to have him. So, Rockets would be a fool to ever give him up.
I'm sure he's at the top of Morey's priority list. The fact that he refused to bundle him in the Harden trade speaks well for how highly he is regarded.
Last season I thought Leonard and Parsons were very similar but this year Parsons is clearly on another level. Leonard is young, has played well and may or may not be better than Parsons in a couple of years but not at this time.
To be fair Leonard averages 10 less minutes than Parsons. Per 36 their stats are really similar, Leonard has the obvious free throw percentage advantage but Parsons has the obvious 3 PT% advantage. Though, Leonard has been injured since mid November so sample size wise one could say Parsons is more representatives than Leonard's.
What i like about Parsons is he's not shy about mingling with people in sports. Today, he apparently was talking to Kevin Willis (tweeted pic). Maybe they knew each other already, but i think he just chatted him up. Guys like that will collect a bunch of information from others and apply to it themselves.
He has the potential to be a borderline all star or all star at one point in his career. I am doubtful that he will get multiple all stars. Still a steal considering where he was drafted.
He had a hot girlfriend when he was a Gator, my friend who partied with him and knows him and his group said that the girl was hot and awesome but he cheated on her a lot. I believe this was his girlfriend
I think this was taken today. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/90491673@N08/8245032393/" title="Parsons and Lin 1 by Rockets888, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8204/8245032393_f8a57655ce.jpg" width="291" height="398" alt="Parsons and Lin 1"></a>
