Nothing last forever, but this is good news to me. http://baylor.247sports.com/Article/Art-Briles-signs-extension-with-Baylor-105012 Briles signs extension Sources from the Baylor Board of Regents have confirmed Art Briles agreed to an extension with Baylor on Sunday night. The extension also increases his buyout. Arkansas, Tennessee, and Auburn all requested to talk with Baylor's coach and he chose to remain at Baylor. More later.
Absolutely. He could very well exit the stage. I was concerned it was going to happen after this season, given the rumors of who was calling. Glad to see an extension get signed. Maybe the new stadium and relative success keeps him around for a while. I think, like Sumlin, he knows that taking his show outside of Texas is NOT a good idea.
Contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on in CFB, sadly. Briles, in particular, will pack up in the middle of the night, tear the paint off the walls, and blow town. (for surprisingly little money) Sumlin, for as much venom as he gets, left in a far more understandabe and dignified manner. If I'm Baylor, I'm sweating balls that Tech is raising money to poach Briles.
Valid point of concern but I don't think UH was on the verge of opening a 250M plus stadium. Baylor also has state of the art practice facilities (Simpson Center).
That's what every UH fan said when the Baylor rumors started circling. Especially when the dollar figures were leaked.
The difference is that was a Big 12 school. He was leaving UH for a major conference school in Texas. Leaving for Tech at this point is about as lateral a move as he could possibly make, though you could make arguments for/against either one being above the other.
Briles is a tech alumni. If Tech had the cash, I wouldn't be surprised if Briles came. With that being said, Tubs isn't being fired this year.
Again, that's exactly what UH fans said. Beware, Max. You married a skirt chaser. Don't be surprised if you get cheated on.
I opened the thread saying nothing is forever. It won't last forever. And UH fans were nuts to think that leaving UH for a Big 12 school without having to leaving his recruiting base was a lateral move.
I'm not overly concerned. If he bolts, so be it. Baylor will be a very attractive option for someone else out there. This ain't the same Baylor. Bad ass stadium. High salary. We'll find a formidable replacement.
UH fans are indeed deluded idiots, but they don't have a monopoly on that. Briles has connections to Tech, and West Texas in general. And he's proven to be a buck chaser. It was our thought that he would end up leaving for Tech all along, and for significantly more money than what he got at Baylor. The buyout bump is encouraging, but don't get your hopes up that Briles is beyond the concept of team hopping within conference. Happens all the time elsewhere.
I am surprised he didn't wait. I mean he could have maybe got the UT job. A 10million dollar buyout will be hard to get out of.
