Hmm, liberal states tend to have stronger safety nets that provide public assistance during a massive economic downturn. Also, that list is based on how many people got on food stamps after the crash and shockingly the states with the most robust safety nets helped the most people. Then again, providing no support for these people is clearly the best idea. I mean all of that growth and wealth in the deep south is ample proof of that idea. Also your list is deceptive since it only looks at state spending on safety nets. If you look at federal spending, Republican states disproportionately receive more federal spending than they send out in the form of taxes

The timing and announcement of this trip is pretty bad. As a counter point on leadership, Bush got ripped to shreds with how he handled Katrina. If you were critical about that, you should be somewhat critical about this. Worse here though is we've known about this issue coming for quite some time. It would be nice for a change if Washington would not wait until the last minute to come up with a game plan.
It sounds to me like Obama is just doing his part to offset the spending cut portion of the Fiscal Cliff.

I don't see how the president physically bring there will accomplish anything early on, much like the similar complaints other con members have voiced about this whenever the president takes a vacation on normal holiday seasons.
