The 8 bought Fame and Recognition. The Dragon Year bought about the talent streak we saw. His stars aligned, so to speak.
Last night game against the Jazz, Lin played exactly like he played with the Knicks: attacking the basket, didn't think too much to go ISO when opportunities presented. This is Lin's natural style and when he plays his style of game, not trying too much to be the pure facilitator and not intentionally avoiding his own shots, he plays best. I remember his interview after that breakthrough game last season against the Nets that before that game, he had been trying to fit in (aka not looking for his own shots) and it didn't work out well. Since he had only a few days left to be cut again, he was like: what the hell, nothing to lose, I'm going to play my own style. Thus, the Linsanity began. Some people may not like Lin's scoring PG style and he was criticize by some Knicks fans for taking too many shots. But in my opinion, Lin needs to be an offensive thread to help the team. Being able to score a bunch opens up not only his game but also the whole team's offense. Look how fluid and diverse our offense showed last night when Lin was able to score his own. If Lin can further improve his jumpers and hit his 3s, the game would be much easier for Harden too since Harden is such a good facilitator. Hopefully last night's Lin is the Lin we will see for future games.

But I was talking about Lin's underdog storyline that was the main reason for Linsanity. It doesn't matter what the Knicks' reason was to cast him off. The important thing is that by their action, they added to his underdog storyline.
Not the mainstream media. The people who came out criticizing him were the non-believers/skeptics in the first place. Now if he keeps improving on his shooting, those critics/doubters will shut their mouth and his believers among the mainstream media will pipe up again. Linsanity started because of performance on the court. The cultural phenomenum came later. Have you counted how many articles New York Times' various sportswriters had written about him this season so far? He's not playing in New York anymore but New York media still can't forget about him. His game back in the MSG will be a media circus for sure. Linsanity is part of the New York sports legent now. And his trail-blazer status isn't going to change. So as long as he's playing in the league, the media will cover him.
One question, have you read any bashing lin articles from New York Times this season? I have read 3 or 4 articles so far, they all said nice things about him, as I recalled.
Agree with many that Linsanity will stay in New York City. As with most legends, may take several years, or even a generation from now, that Lin will be revered and a folk hero in NYC. Perhaps a flash in the pain, but nonetheless, a remarkable story to behold in our fast-paced world. However, if someday he should ever help lead a team to the promise land of an NBA championship, watch out Disney and hollywood! Until, then, work on your friggin shot lin!
Not from the NYT. The Times is actually very level headed when they write stuff about Lin. Probably helps that they have Nate Silver (a serious stats gearhead) writing on their five thirty eight blog. Usually the hit pieces from the NY media are coming from the NY Daily News and Post. And honestly, I think part of it is the stranglehold that Dolan has on the media. Writing critical articles about the Knicks as a journalist is a very dodgy proposition given Dolan's history with the media. As for Linsanity part 2 on any really big media scale, I don't really see it happening unless one of the following happen... 1) Lin goes ballistic at MSG and starts a string of good games. That game will get a TON of media coverage in NYC and it's nationally broadcasted. If he does a big night and the Rockets pull off a win, expect the lens to swing back to Lin and the Rockets. or 2) The Rockets get into the playoffs and start pulling off some major upset wins with Lin playing well. Otherwise, Lin would have to start stringing together a long series of impressive games and wins. It's not impossible. NY is only 8 games away and we've got some serious competition ahead in the schedule including LA, Dallas, Boston and 2 games against the Spurs. If the Rockets somehow start knocking off a good chunk of those games with Lin racking impressive stat lines, I wouldn't be surprised if the media pick up on it and you get more of a smaller media burst. Either way, I wouldn't count on it. Lin and the entire Rockets team is a work in progress. Just getting to the playoffs is as much as should be reasonably hoped for at this point.
Yup, they are still obsessed with him. Readership is probably the main reason. I have no love for the NY Knicks...not even when Jeremy was playing for them. But it's different in Houston, here, I am falling in love with the team.
That's exactly what I meant. Mainstream media like NY Times isn't bashing Lin. On the contrary, NY Times has been writing at least 5 nice and nostagia articles about Lin so far. The ones who are bashing Lin are writing for Bleacher Reports, NY tabloids, Huffington Post etc. Those sounded like non-believers from the beginning. They just are bold enough to speak up because of Lin's shooting slump.
Totally agree with you about Linsanity part 2, with Knicks playing so well right now New York media will/can not pay as much focus on Lin as last season. But if he has a good game and help his team win on 12/17 the media coverage will be crazy again. Watching spurs bench played vs heat the other day, I was thinking about rockets can be as good as spurs one day. As time goes on with good training and good disciplines they will be a great team everyone talk about and cheer for.
