Actually, LINSANITY (the story) will NOT happen again with Lin. It would have nothing to do with his stats or plays. It is just that ... LINSANITY occurred because of Lin's non-draft status, getting cut twice, almost a third time, off the bench, and crazy first 7 games, for NYK team that was fading out of playoffs, and Lin's novelty as Asian American bball player helped. Now that he's effectively an anointed starter, on an above league average salary, with a decent stretch of games starting under his belt, he'll just be an above average NBA point guard (if he continues to improve or plays back up towards how he did last year). But no more Linsanity. Just another player now. It would only be Linsanity if he got cut again or some other new cinderella story appeared.
LOL it's call sequel buddy. ESPN will instantly call it Linsanity 2.0. If our PG goes on huge scoring run and Houston also wins it will all over the news. He still the only Asian American person in NBA. Media continue cover/exploit the underdog story for ratings.
Yep, we saw how the Jazz announcers were so eager to call a Lin play Linsanity. I swear they mentioned it every time Lin had or scored the ball.
Yup it is so dumb. Frankly Lin hasn't been playing as poorly as people make it out to be. If you look past his shooting woes he has been playing well. He is averaging 7 assists on a team where only one other player can create for themselves, (Harden). And he is doing this also as the secondary playmaker. That is one less assist than he averaged last year with the likes of Carmelo, Amare, Tyson, Novak, JR Smith etc. His passing has been on point all season, he is a better passer than Dragic, & the fact that people haven't been talking about this (the media) is surprising. His defense has been above average a few lapses here & there but for the most part solid. His steal rate has been fantastic & he is an above average rebounder for his position. He has to be up there in the NBA in terms of RBS (rebounds, blocks steals). Last year he was second to Rubio. Last season people were on him because they felt he couldn't run an offense that he was a scorer or a two guard. Now people are ripping him because he is struggling to score but nobody is talking about his playmaking or his passing ability. Haters gonna hate. His TO's are also down substantially for the season. He still has some dumb ones but for the most part he has been solid on that score. The big things people critiqued him for this year TO's & Defense are a lot better but silence on that. Anyway he needs to improve his scoring & try to get to the FT line a lot more. Season is still early though.
Well said, roxxy. Nothing will cure it but time. Lin has to become Lin the NBA player and not Linsanity the Linderella story. Just has to put in his time and take his lumps. I do still hear people saying he's a turnover machine and can't defend, though -- seem to be people following last year's script without watching this season's games.
I think he trademarked Linsanity so he might not hate it. If he continues to improve, one day the Linsanity trademark might make him some serious coin in merchandise royalties.
He trademarked it so people couldn't profit off him. People were naming medical mar1juana after Linsanity. At some point, you have to protect your image. I doubt we will see a line of Linsanity products from Jeremy.
LOL yeah he might stop hating it later if he can make a profit off it for him and his charity foundation, who knows if he will use it or not. But yeah, he trademarked it because there were a few other people who had applied to do so, so he was just trying to prevent others from profiting off him.
Actually, I think how the Knicks treated him is a perfect backdrop for Linsanity 2.0. The underdog got doubted and cast off...again, despite how he proved himself on the court and how he saved the team's season. It fits perfectly with Lin's underdog storyline. If he explodes again in Houston, it will be Linsanity 2.0. Linsanity's storyline is mainly about the underdog story and that is still true even today, thanks to the Knicks and all the doubters/critics/SASs.
Yeah, but the Knicks are in a different position than the Rockets, win now vs rebuilding. If the Rockets make the playoffs but the Knicks don't, I could see what you're describing, but that isn't likely since the East is so weak. Man, I wish Rockets played in the East.
The media pretty much disowned Jeremy Lin. This past 2 weeks alone there were tons of negative and harsh articles about him....no mercy. On a positive note, from now on, Lin will be judged differently. He will be judged on his performance...pure old fashion hardwork and dedication. No media hype. I am actually lovin it.
I don't know if people understand the PG position, but he has been playing it well since the start of course he has bad games..who doesn't? and his shot was even more pathetic than luther head in playoff mode. But it looks now that lin's shot is coming around. Once he dunked that ball a couple of games ago, i was like yeah..he no longer needs to be icing those knees.
Fan cam... Do remember the famous handshake of Lin and Fields? Well, how about this from Lin and Parson...starting @ 0:13 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Czu7AM2d9cw
Parsons is in every way superior to Landry Fields as Lin's BFF. Better defender, better shooter, better contract, less dorky pregame handshake, handsomer.
Exactly. Even if Lin put up similar numbers, he'd just be a good player doing his thing. The shock value would be totally gone. Anybody who wants Linsanity to happen doesn't know basketball. The team is trying to turn him into a long-term quality starting PG, not some cultural icon who grabs headlines.
