This had nothing to do with football. This was one person who snapped and made a rash choice to pull the gun on his girlfriend. Then having the wherewithal to drive to Arrowhead to talk with coaches and deciding he didn't want to spend his life in prison. There are crazy people scattered amongst us. Stop blaming irrelevant s**t for the sake of needing a patsy. It's very hard for the NFL to cancel the game. The show must go on. Romeo Crennel should not be on the sideline tomorrow.
I don't know where the ultimate decision lies, but it seems like it was up to the Chiefs. The team consulted with the coach and team captains before telling the NFL that they would play the game, so the players definitely had a voice in the decision. Its probably a welcome distraction for the team at this point.
count me in with those wanting to call in a forfeit. it would be the right thing to do. I agree that it has nothing to do with football but I can hear it already... Local radio experts will try to speculate how the tragedy is related to brain trauma from concussions. a month from now the same radio experts will be bashing the league for how soft the league is.
I don't think they should cancel the game. I think the circumstances that it was a suicide are such that it should be ignored. Don't celebrate the man's life for murdering the mother of his child and then selfishly taking his own life in front of his coaches and general manager. If the coaches affected choose not to coach, that should be up to them. I don't see a reason to cancel the game, though.
I agree with this. No reason to cancel the game at all. If the coaches need some time, then that's completely fine.
See, I'm thinking the exact opposite: the Chiefs will be putting their heart and soul into the game tomorrow and the Panthers might feel bad for kicking them while they're down. As for cancelling the game, that affects a whole lot of people who depend on these games for their livelihood, not just the players and coaches. I can understand not wanting to cancel due to the actions of one disturbed individual.
The show must go on. If they cancel it, it will cause a lot of headache to people who bought tickets for the game, some flying in to go to the game and some who took a day off to be at this game. Importantly, you don't want another stoppage of game, god forbid, if another similar incident happen again. If he really cared about the game, he should not go to Arrowhead.
You guys are nuts if you thought the NFL would cancel the game. Think of all the press and viewership this will get and they will milk it for as much as possible. There is no such thing as negative press. Disgusting but true.
Why? Because a murderer killed himself? Do you think games should be cancelled if a family member of a player is murdered? What if this guy killed her and then turned himself into police? Should the game be cancelled then? Or should it only be cancelled cause the murderer died too?
I see what you're saying, but i think the reason to cancel it would be because the coach and GM witnessed something pretty terrible and the team will be thinking of the death and how it happened. So, it's more about helping out others and not so much about remembering the player.
I'm sure the Chiefs would let them skip the game if they wanted, but since the Chiefs were the ones who made the decision to play, not sure why anyone is criticizing the decision at this point.
This. The Chiefs captains voted to play. The nfl left it up to the team. They weren't forced to play.
I don't want to jump to conclusions about this incident but we can't ignore the fact that many football players are suffering neurological damage from playing football. I love both college and pro-football and want to see it continue but things are going to have to change or else liability issues alone might do away with it.
