I'm still pissed off about ex girlfriends but I would never lay a finger on them. This is a tragedy. The most severely stupid thing possible.
Most NFL players are making very little more than the minimum and only play 2-3 years... They get people asking for money, have to travel and have a serious risk of injury and mental issues. Not as glamorous as people think.
Your example is still closer to worst case scenario as opposed to the best as you claimed. Sad story man. One of those that hit me in the gut originally, but to hear there's now a little girl who will never know her parents makes it that much worse.
I can't feel sorry for players that are bad with their money. Even those on the practice squad make like 80k a year. Maybe they should have finished school, so they'd have a degree to fall back on. It's not like they can't afford it, most finish a year or two, they can afford another 2 yrs on their salary. I dont believe they have said it was planned. Its hard to say at this point that he was mentall ill or had brain damage. People do stupid things in the heat of the moment. If he already had a temper or pent up frustration/stress, then it would be easier for him to snap for a second. He could have had the gun around and just picked it up during the argument, rather than going to get it to kill her.
78% of NFL players go broke so most likely an nfl player ends up broke. Plus they will have debilitating injuries through life. Life is not all rosy.
It would be telling if it's ever revealed where Belcher shot himself. Seau shot himself in the chest and, intentionally or not, allowed his brain to remain intact to be studied after his death. Just like former player Dave Duerson who shot himself in the chest so that his brain could be preserved and studied.

People stopped watching boxing because the major heavyweights suck. Folks loved to watch Mike Tyson get violent on people.
Might not be a popular view, but the whole suicide prevention thing seems misguided to me. Killing yourself as punishment for murdering the mother of your child is not completely irrational behavior.
It's vaguely similar but didn't they play after Sean Taylor got killed? The Panthers are still enroute to KC, maybe the most likely outcome is that it's postponed to Monday.

I guarantee you this tragedy won't be a death knell for the NFL and football in general. The game is too ingrained in our culture in a way boxing never was. The game is evolving and will continue to do so. We never gave my son the option of playing football. It was basketball and soccer for him. He's turned into a basketball fanatic which is great.
Dont know how Romeo and the GM is not replaying that incident over and over in their minds...trying to talk out a young kid that made a bad mistake from making things even worse...Regardless of the crime that is committed...if you can not face what you did as a man...your just a coward... In a matter of 15-20 minutes..and child became an orphan, and a mother has to bury their respective children... KC should either request the game to be forfeited to Carolina...and since the Panthers are mathematically out...they request for a tie...There is no reason for this game to be need to be played...Period.
Yes, thousands of high schools, hundreds of colleges, and the NFL and other semipro leagues around the world will all decide that this is the moment that caused them to eliminate their football programs. This post doesn't live up to your moniker. Am I saying that football players do not suffer from long term injuries? Not at all. I played football at all levels for close to 15 years and have the arthritis and bursitis to prove it. But brain damage does not occur "easily" in football players. BTW, there was no evidence of any brain damage, much less severe, in Junior Seau according to his preliminary autopsy report. A more detailed report from the National Institutes for Health is pending. A quick Google search before asserting something is true is always a good idea.
I'm just saying that enough cases like this happen that it's possible that there begins to be a detrimental effect on the league in a lot of aspects. May lose viewers, people think that it's too barbaric and stop watching, the NFL might respond and take out even more violence and the opposite type of watchers stop tuning in cause its too soft now. Lawsuits that will hurt the bottom line, and in the future, less kids are allowed to play football, which makes the talent level of the league drop.
