LOL. We should do what the Mavericks did. Sit him on the bench because we are disappointed with his defense. And then sign Derrick Fisher to start who hasn't played D since high school & tell him that we want Fisher to teach him how to play point.
Lin is positioning himself at the corner to open up the middle. That's not being passive. Houston's offense is very one-dimensional now since we have no lowpost threat. Every play is guard-oriented pnr. When your perimeter shooters are not deadly like Novak, it is easy to just clog up the middle and force the guard to take a contested J. That's not a formula for winning, IMO.
I am with superstar on this one not everybody develops at the same rate & we aren't just all robots. Look at the way Jrue Holliday is playing this season it took him years to learn how to run an NBA offense. Tony Parker played his best season of basketball last year & he himself said he still struggles with certain aspects of the game. Harden has played in how many more games than Lin has (far more success at a younger age) so to compare the two seems odd to me. And you did say it best it is very knee jerk of you to say based off of 15 games that Harden is a max player just like it is very knee jerk of you to say otherwise of Lin. (I do love James Harden though). Like I said you probably came to a conclusion about Lin/Harden a long time ago & are suffering from a tad bit of confirmation bias. Just a thought.
nah. I just use my eyes to watch them play and then i form a conclusion based on what i see. Lin has a long way to go. you don't give a guy $8.5 mil for 3 years on the hope that a year or so in, he'll live up to that contract.
I remember there was a good quality Lin thread called "Lin's scrutiny" with nearly thousand comments. I think that thread title is more appropriate and more objective than this one. But hell, sensational title sells. Every OP is trying to imitate the ESPN headline style. Lin is an interesting person to talk about for many reasons. If you pay attention, any Lin thread will generate many responses and in this thread a lot of comments have nothing to do with OP's title and they were simply talking about every aspect of Lin. Fans simply feel the need to talk about Lin. And if there is an active thread, they will go there and post, regardless of the title. That's why I suggested before that Clutch should just make a giant Lin thread floating above the first page. That way, it would be much easier for so many Lin fans and Lin haters like this OP.
http://wagesofwins.com/2012/03/22/you-watch-the-games-so-what/ Don't disagree with you that Lin has a long way to go. I have never said otherwise. In regards to the your last sentence that is how the NBA works my friend. Players are paid for a variety of reasons potential is always one of them. Some people look at averages to say a player is living up to the contract others look at wins & how many wins a player produces over the duration of there contract. I believe a win is worth about $1.63 million per win.
I'm sure Lin is a different case where he can actually make money back for the organization. Plus it's not like the first time this has happened in sports where a player is paid because of their potential. Your eyes aren't the same the ppl making the decisions is what it comes down to.
At the least the title of this thread should be renamed to "LOF vs. LOH". It would be a lot more descriptive of what actually went on here. All star's fan clubs are controversial and Lin is no exception. Someone emailed me a link to a Knicks forum a few days ago and in it, one of the forum moderators told Lin to STFU because Lin was attributing his success to God's will like he always does. I wonder if the same moderator was as vocal against Lin's religion when he was wearing NYK uniform. Probably not. I think Lin will get better over the course of this season but he will always have to deal with haters like SAS. Racism is an embedded human nature. It's never going to die.
I just pumped the old good thread "Lin's scurtiny". Please go there to keep it alive on the first page. This thread title is a joke and deserves no more attention like it has gotten.
I'm not against any arguments but that's just downright rude. And IMO that's bcos all those negative pr and media works.
If Jeremy's a joke, should they put him on the Tonight Show, or Letterman? I'm partial to Letterman, myself. Seriously, why is this still going? I freely admit to not having read most of the thread (I usually don't open threads with 4 exclamation marks in the title!!!!). Should I? One would think that folks would have calmed down a bit after the last 3 games. Mr. Lin played very well against the Knicks and the god-awful Raptors, and wasn't terrible against OKC, or maybe I should say that the team played so badly against the Thunder that it would be unfair to single Jeremy out amongst the crowd. His shot looks much better. His defense isn't bad, in my opinion. In fact, I'm terribly impressed with the number of steals he keeps getting. He has excellent size for a point and seems to be getting both his legs and his shot back. Has had drives to the basket lately that I've been waiting to see. Maybe we should lay off the fellow for a while and see if his improvement continues. I still think he's going to bust out for 25 or 30 soon, with 8-10 assists and 3 or less turnovers. When that happens, the forum will be flooded with threads and posts shouting about how great he is (even if he's merely very good). It's a beautiful day here in Austin. I just got home from finding out that I'm not going blind (wish I was making that up!), so it looks like an especially fine day. Enjoy it! I hope Jeremy is.
No, still think he played passively last game. A few times, he passed the ball and did the spacing, that is all. Maybe that is the coach's plan, I dont know. I just think he should do more playmaker's work.
how many wins can we attribute to Jeremy Lin? Look, i realize that potential is an important part of contract value, but the truth is that Lin was overcompensated because that was the only way we could get him as a restricted free agent. I have a hard time believing that Morey actually thought he was worth that money. By trying to defend the contract in terms of his on-court value, i think you are fighting a losing battle. At the end of the day, Lin generates excitement, tv ratings, new fans, and more cash. That and the fact that we needed a starting PG were the primary reasons he was signed to that deal. ability and potential took a back seat ...or at least i hope so because i don;t have another explanation for why he is wildly over-paid.
I am not sure why you always want to single out Lin's contract. I have ask other poster the question and did not get the answer yet: What kind of performance/stats, in terms of points/assists/rebounds/steals/TOs, you want from Lin in order for him to justify for $8.3mil per year for 3 years? thank you.
