Interesting. Maloofs have denied Virginia talks in the past. But if they get an arena AND 80 mil to cover all costs... But I bet if Seattle offers similar terms, they'll be in Seattle asap.

do they even have any other blue-chip assets remaining? they probably just want to move the team to a good place, get the best possible arena / TV deal, max the value and sell.

No my understanding from about a year ago is that they really have nothing of value left and are leveraged about as much as possible.

What they are trying to do is not good for the NBA. The league needs stability and the Maloof rumors are not helping the situation. Sacramento supports their team, and deserve to keep it.

Seattle never should have lost their team, and long term I seriously doubt Oklahoma and New Orleans will be able to support their franchises.

Hampton Roads area is almost exactly the same size as the Charlotte and Indianapolis metro areas, which sport both NFL and NBA franchises.

it's bigger than Nashville, Jacksonville, OK City, Milwaukee, NOLA, & SL City.

that's nascar and college sports country out there. Hard to imagine a successful NBA team out there, esp if they win as much as the Kings

The construction of a new Seattle arena has been approved by the city council, but it requires heavy investment from the owner of the team. Chris Hansen has agreed to put up quite a bit of money towards the construction as long as he owns a team. If the Maloofs sell to him, they would be playing here in Seattle pretty rapidly. However, there's no way the city would give the Maloofs a brand new arena for free.

if the Kings fan did they wouldn't be in this situation. They couldn't even sell out on a dollar beer night promo a season or two ago.

All owners are like the Maloofs. Just ask Baltimore, Cleveland, Seattle, and local fans.

Come to Houston. It's about time we have 2 teams in a sport like LA and NY.

If they're moving, they should only be allowed to move to Seattle.

I don't see why OKC couldn't. San Antonio has done just fine, and I think they are similarly setup. If the NFL or MLB ever came to town, that might change things, but as the only pro-team, they will be fine.

New Orleans and Charlotte have both shown they aren't good NBA cities.

Virginia Beach makes no sense from a conference alignment perspective. Either expansion (not going to happen) or realignment would have to happen to balance out the conferences. But, which Eastern Conference team would move to the West? Milwaukee? Indiana? None of the options make sense.

Of course, why would the NBA ever approve this? There's a beautiful arena in Kansas City - a town with a history of great college basketball support and starved for some kind of success - and plans to build one in Seattle, whose lack of a team is a black mark on Stern's legacy that I believe he's desperate to solve before he retires.
