Cost is the same, only question is who pays.

No they won'r because for the price they would want no one would pay. It's not viable to pick up and deliver mail to someone in rural America if you charge $9 for a stamp in the internet age.

And railroads use to be privately owned. They ALL failed when the interstate system was built. Throw in airplanes and railroads became unviable. And yet they are needed - imagine the mess without the NE corridor rail line.

Your views are ridiculously simplistic and show a deep ignorance.

Are you saying is that poverty is basically the choice you make in life and not because of lack of free public education, medical bankruptcies and such?

If you do this and that, you will go into poverty, your kids will go into poverty when they grow up, and we should put more public assistance to feed the cycle?

The opportunities are there. It matters what you make out if it.

Building roads is afar, far different from government taking over the things you would suggest. If you cannot see that, I can't cure intentional blindness. Government cannot be the solution to every problem. Just look to the governments that are essentially bankrupt in other parts of the world where they tried it. Greece is the extreme example. Even in Britian, they are having to increase college tuition to the point that students rioted.

At some point, there just aren't enough people to tax to pay for it all.

Government policy causes unemployment and poverty. In my opinion, this is done to keep certain groups of people down, even though they constantly claim that their policies are helping these same groups of people.

Sooo offer no assistance and let folks starve and die in the streets? How does government assistance cause poverty? Nobody is making you not read, nobody is making you not go to school. The government handing out foodstamps and housing does not cause poverty, it assists impoverished peoples but there is certainly no chain holding those same people in place.

    Exactly.

I didn't single out 'assistance' as causing poverty, but it is part of it. There are many policies in place that cause unemployment among those who need employment the most, and siphon control over economic resources from the average person to major corporate interests.

There has always been poverty, regardless of the form of government or no government at all. So to claim that government causes unemployment and poverty is simplistic.

Further, do not forget that most in poverty and children and the elderly, those that can do very little to improve their condition.

There seems to be this false sense that those in America in poverty have it as well as the middle class or wealthy. This is simply false. The majority of those that are on government assistance live a meager existance. Although I suppose that it does make those that do not want to provide a basic base for their fellow Americans an out of feeling guilt.

I grew up on government assistance as a child. I went on to get a JD and Masters in Econ and a MBA from Rice. So to assume that the GOVERNMENT put me in poverty is absurd. The fact that I could eat every day, have a roof over my head and get student loans all with the blessing of the government, has allowed me to have a good life and contribute time and money to others.

No one discusses this point, but when people expect children to be garbage, to be problems, they tend to become garbage and problems. It is always the Republicans that assume the poor are worthless, listless and criminal. You can see it even on here, with the posts by BigTexxx, JD and others.

If poverty gets rampant enough . . .
the Rich will have to start building up walls to keep out the poor.
Cause. . if it comes to starving of robbing and stealing etc
    well. . . . you decide

I'm sure you would gladly trade places with a poor person, right?
