Virginia sets different education goals based on race?

I don't think it purely socio-economic. Some of it might be cultural. For example Nigerian immigrants tend to do pretty since they go to college. Same with Indians and Chinese people. A lot of them come to this country with very little, but they some how make it.

That's not surprising. I've read that first generation immigrants are usually the most successful group of people here in the states. They know and appreciate the opportunity in front of them and get after it.

 

This is a natural bi-product of a collectivist system that thinks of individuals based on some group identity that doesn't really exist rather than on the merits of what they're capable of as individuals. It's sickening. Politics is always a game of made up groups vying for more economic resources to be distributed to them by the state. Union workers versus non-union workers. Rural workers versus industrial workers versus service workers. Black versus white versus hispanic. Catholic versus Protestant. It goes on and on. Personally, I've never had my politics determined by the various groups that these politicians lump me into when they're trying to determine who'll vote for them. (Of course, I'd be considered an extremist by most anybody.)

 

Your post seems like a byproduct of not bothering to actually learn what this change does and instead just read a few sentences and formed an opinion.

 

I think the expectations have already been set long ago.

Agree that socioeconomic conditions should be the factor but current reality of locally funded schools handcuffs the problem.

 

Yup it's all cultural imo. Latino and American black households in general don't push education as much as Asian households do. White America in general has an anti-intellectual vein to it that hurts education as well.
