LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — A Lafayette woman who police say deliberately posted a nude photo of her teenage daughter on the girl's Facebook page faces charges of child exploitation and child p*rnography possession. The felony charges filed Wednesday in a Tippecanoe County court allege the 50-year-old woman posted the photo in November 2011. Detective Mark Pinkard tells the Journal & Courier (http://on.jconline.com/QN3zsa ) that investigators spent a year collecting evidence, including issuing subpoenas to Facebook and the teen's cellphone provider. A probable cause affidavit says the girl took the photo of herself but that her mother had possession of the phone when the picture was uploaded to Facebook. The child exploitation charge carries a potential sentence of six to 20 years in prison. Efforts to reach the woman were not successful. Honestly, this sounds like the daughter set-up the mom, and the mom never uploaded the photo from her daughter's phone. Facts as stated in article: Girl took the picture herself Photo was uploaded to her FB page Photo was uploaded from the girl's cellphone Something is fishy.
I assumed she thought it was a clever punishment to embarass her publicly for sexting. But, as it turned out it wasn't so much clever but blatantly illegal. If I'm right and unless there's some evidence that it was an attempt at exploitation, I'd go light on sentencing.
What a collossal waste all around! They wasted an entire year investigating what amounts to bull****, and this could potentially put the mother in prison for 20 years. Good grief! What a total lack of common sense...
