At the same time, if the backup is an even better player, shouldn't he have the ability to earn a promotion?
It's kind of tricky because even if he's a better player you still have to expect him to have some growing pains at some point. The NFL has a long history of figuring out young QBs. It could occur during a very crucial point in the season or worse yet the playoffs. Don't know if you want to start playing QB carousel later in the season or during the playoffs.
I said this in another thread, harbaugh is pushing the self destruct button unnecessarily. I also think the league (with more tape) will "figure" out Kaepernik eventually and be able to scheme for him and his tendencies. Not only that but I made the case that all rookie QBs this year hit the rookie wall about halfway through the season. They all did, Luck, Tannehil, RG3, Wilson. If form holds Kaepernik will hit his wall again right around playoff time.
I really think this has a lot to do with his breakout performance vs my Bears, think they went in prepping for Smith were thrown off base. Add to that that they had everything else implode against them that Monday night but I digress. The Saints defense is pretty terrible and they did a much better job of keeping him check, take away those 2 pick 6s and its a much closer game.
Hey fellas, Haven't been able to post much lately. Missed talking NFL with y'all. That said, there's still some optimism around these parts that Big Ben will be ready for Sunday. Lord knows, the season potentially rides on whether or not he plays Sunday. Given the type of competitor he is (and how he once beat this team with a broken foot), I think they'll literally have to detain him if the doctors rule him ineligible.
Wait - where is RG3's rookie wall? In his last 2 games, he's thrown for 8 TDs and 1 INT. Russell Wilson's last 3 games include 7 TDs and 0 INTs. Luck and Tannehill have been up and down all season. I'm not saying Kaepernick is the right choice. I'm just arguing against the idea that as long as a player is doing well, they should never lose their job. If someone is deemed better, there's no reason they should be stuck on the bench. If the coach is wrong and that player is, in fact, NOT better then the team will probably regret it.
Have wondered where you've been. I am not sure I want Roethlisberger to play. If there is a team that will take a cheap shot to re-aggravate his injury, it would be the Ravens. Part of me would rather take the loss and try to win out afterwards. But, Roethlisberger coming back and crushing them would certainly be a nice treat after some painful football the last few weeks. (Wish they had kept Jerrod Johnson.) Seriously, when was the last time Leftwich had some playing time without getting injured? Don't get me started on the zombie.
If it isnt broken, dont fix it... If Kapernik had better talent, that shouldve been decided at the beginning of the season or waited till next year. Infact the 49ers shouldve just let Alex go...and pursued Manning in the offseason. In comparison, imagine if GB had Aaron Rodgers start mid season with Farve still in GB...Aaron Rodgers has proven himself over time, but GB didnt gut the vet in favor for their prized rookie. They just waited. In the end, they had a super motivated Aaron Rodgers who is always looking to prove others wrong. They maxed out on the Brett Farve fiasco. And they got a title. Thats the right way to do it...Not this Now he will have a disgruntled backup QB who will not play his best if called upon at a future date...If his coach cant trust him with the job when they were winning, then a player has no reason to trust his coach. In the offseason, look for Alex Smith to request a trade or severance with the 49ers.
This...Kapernik accounted for some really good throws and scoring TD for himself...but the Saints lost the game b/c the 49ers defense was that good...2 pick 6's. Not because of Kapernik's amazing play...
RG3 is gonna shock NY...He likes big games on big stages...Look for the kid to have another stellar game
if only ATL had to play the Packers, Bears, Giants, 49ers, Texans, Patriots, Ravens, or even the Steelers and not close wins against sub .500 teams.
wish we had a kicker who could hit a 50+ FG... Hell, wish we had one who could routinely hit a 40+ FG.
